Hi All

Definitely not an expert on vintage Marshall cabs. This one is a bit difficult to discern as it has been refinished. But I am still wondering what I got here. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

This cab was advertised as a "79 to '82 cab that was refinished several years ago. I can get more pics if needed. My buddy says its not a Marshall because the plastic handles do not have Marshall logo's on them. Seller was a bit vague - he is an older guy and said these cabs (he has a few) have been in storage for at least 10 years. I bought this one because I haven't had a cab with '65's and wanted to try them.

One of the issues I'll need to sort out is when it was refin'ed they added a neutrik/speakon connector for safety so I haven't actually heard this cab. I have a cable on order but I would really like to have it rewired and the input jack changed to mono/stereo. I have been using a 2 heads into one cab setup lately with my Splawn cab and would like to use this that way also. Anybody know of someone in the Inland Empire who could help me with that?

Anyways - here are some pics. Please help with whatever info you can.

Just a Guess but it looks like it may be an older JCM 800 Cab. I've had LOTS Of Marshall Cabs in 30 Years of Playing......8-10 Cabs to be exact & none had the marshall logo on the handles.

Nice score, it looks great and it does have nice speakers. The CM7 is a '79 and the EQ7 is an '82. My understanding is that they tweeked these over the years so the '79 might sound noticeably different than the '82.

The original handles would have had rivits and like rattles with any volume. Are the new ones metal or plastic?

handles are plastic. Installed with brass looking screws.

I don't have a pic but the cab did not come with casters but the sockets are there. They are round plastic with threads up and in.

It's a 79 cab, possibly earlier. Do the caster cup holders on top have Marshall on them? If they do then it's at least a 79, and maybe earlier since the cab has the gold piping on the top sides that run across to the back. My 79 cab doesn't have that, but my 74 does. The handles should have Marshall on them but they easily could have been replaced long ago.
Great cab, and my favorite speaker! Mine are the 3120 Marshall labeled from 79, a little brighter than any other version. The T3054 that you have is the most common, and is what the new Heritage 65 is copied from.
Congrats!

You can rewire the cab in 15 minutes. Easy job. It takes more time to take the screws off than it does to rewire. If you aren't familiar, there are endless diagrams online you could pull up in a minute.

Cab looks nice! Speakers should be great. Cheers and congrats!

That's such a bonus that it has screws for the handles, the rivets will rattle at volume as scottosan said. I recently had to do that to a cab.

If its all.original, it's more in line with an earlier cab. It has a 2x4 brace. They stopped doing that in 1973 area. The piping on top they stopped doing in 1975. Same with the smooth tolex. They started putting corner protectors on then in the 73-74 range. The larger Marshall logo didnt start until 1976.. The grillcloth, cant tell but it looks more like early 70s, but is any of it original? Regardless of its actual age. It looks to be built well and definitely not a new cabinet. Lol. awesome.speakers too. I've been looking for a b cab with those speakers for a while and in purple... you just made me damn jealous.

My 1973-74 cabinet says marshall in the handles and the cups. My 800 cabinet here doesnt. All my other cabinets are spread out, but it really doesnt mean a lot. Some have it some dont.

My guess is that it is a Park cabinet and someone put a Marshall logo on it. I know from experience. :D
