So, as most of you guys have seen... I haven't been around too much lately, nearly as much as I had been in the past. I got "upgraded" at work, which means except for a few days here and there, I'm going from the time I get in to the time I'm supposed to leave... and that's a good day. And, music's been pretty stagnate for me... still in the same band, working in another bass player, with some personal issues creeping up twixt me and another member just making it not such a happy situation. Definitely not the joy that a hobby should bring.
Well, I've been playing Dobro for a while off and on, and I just got asked to play Dobro and lap steel with the group that's just getting together. I dig the material, don't know quite how to describe it... The singer's going back and forth between keys (B3 & Rhodes-esque) and guitar (acoustic for now, but some of the material's gonna end up electric), drummer's using a fusion kit he's called it... kick drum, djembes, congos, hand cymbals, and a bunch of aux percusion stuff, and me on Dobro, lap steel, and a bit of electric work sometimes. It's been REAL refreshing, a lot more the type of music I grew up on, and very different from the current band; so it's been a great change of pace.
I had a borrowed lap steel from the singer, but the feel was real odd and things seem to be picking up with the group so I could stand to invest a little in it... And I haven't really bought any gear in a good while, besides upgrading my Axe-FX to an Ultra.
Then I picked this up today...
Kinda pumped... I inheritted the Dobro (Dad was REAL into folk, bluegrass, buying instruments in the 70s, and never learning to play them
) , so I've had it around for a while, but I've always just played it for porch-jams and drinking-jams. Never anything serious, just bringing it out for variety when acoustics were involved.
So... Just had some downtime at work and thought I'd share.
