I never had an issue with painted necks, so I might not be the best person to ask. But if you want my opinion, I think it feels fine. The tone of this guitar, even with the EMG81, is amazing. It has this great low-mid kinda growl at low tunings. It totally killed my Ibanez in terms of tone.

Thanks guys! I like EMGs, but they're very one-trick-ponies, IMO. I also don't care for them when it comes to lead tones. I'm thinking about swapping the pickups out for a Hotrails in the neck/middle and a PH-R or Duncan Custom in the bridge, but we'll see. The crazy sponge finish takes a little getting used to, but it definitely is an attention grabber (even if that attention is negative).

Grats on the new guitar!

also in response to this quote:

My Dellinger II has a oiled neck and I prefer it to the TAT. I have the SE Oiled Mahogany Dellinger II at the moment. Previously owned a 07 Red Sunset TAT II that I got rid of and just picked up this one. It was glossy but not super glossy, playable but for some odd reason I can never get used to them maybe because I got dirty sticky hands   The Dellinger has a way fatter neck though but plays smoothly, plays surprisingly well and I love the way it sounds with a Suhr Aldrich in the bridge

Maybe this weekend, been working long ass days lately. 2 weeks to go! :) The Oiled Natural finish looks way better in pictures than it does in person ;)

I hate the finish, other than that it is badass!
Congrats

Every time I see that sort of paint job, I think....CC Deville

yeah my first and only caparison is this Horus and i seriously love this guitar to death. for any kind of metal/lead work this is my main axe. i just LOVE the way the neck feels too.

Their guitars are awesome, but the sponge finishes and headstock are where they fail.

that's cool but i totally LOVE the headstocks and the deep sea finish on my Horus is just great. they need to start making production guitars with maple boards and the clock inlays. THOSE look killer.
