I found a used purple So-Cal at a music store in a back room for a really good deal...I grabbed it to try it out on a gig last night, not sure if I was wanting to keep it.
I was just planning on using it for a few songs to try it out, I ended up using it the entire night.

This guitar is one of the easiest to solo on I've ever played, it's just stupid easy to play fast on it...and the pickups/wood tone is outstanding.
It's really heavy...are they all this heavy?
Great guitar!

Mine is really heavy as well compared to my strat. Great sounding and playing guitars though.

The neck shape/feel and playability factor is wow...don't think I'd change out the pickups either.
I'm surprised how heavy it is, I've never played a strat guitar that's weighed this much, it's almost Les Paul weight.
Not a big purple guitar fan...but it's not bothering me either.
I could see a drastic makeover in the future. I'll maybe try taking all the finish off and see how the body's bare wood looks...if the wood doesn't look great, paint her vintage white.

Congrats! I love my SoCal, too. I have been swapping pickups around to taste, but the stock Dimarzios sound great as-is.

The pickups surprised me, they sound great in this guitar. Thick tone, but they still cut over the drums, really nice!

Awesome. Love the purple So-Cals.

Heavy? I have 3 Charvels, one weighs less than my MIM strat, the other two are even lighter, really light. I'm really digging the Dimarzios in the so-cal, and might swap out the JB in my main San Dimas for a TZ.

 ........I want of these so bad, the slime green one though

Strange...don't know if it's just the body wood of this one. It feels a lot heavier then my 3 strats and my EBMM Axis.

You know, from the hype around here I sort of didn't want to like it. Can't stand hyped stuff. But it's an awesome guitar!
We play funk, 80's rock, new pop/rock...I need a nice clean tone, semi clean tone, distorted tone...it was really versatile, rolling back the guitar's volume with gain works really well with this guy and all the pickup selections were very usable.

Slime green would be nice.

Something about a purple guitar..I feel everybody is expecting me to play Prince songs.

:emofag: :grim: Not a big purple fan but it is still cool. I would rock the fuck outta green
HNGD very nice man!

Phenomenal guitars. I don't have enough good things to say about them. They are the best "bang for the buck" American guitar made IMHO. I've had a bunch of them, and if it wasn't for the Demartini sig Charvels, I'd probably have about 10 of them!

Nice guitar! I like the purple
I know you like strats and singles too...you would dig these. We started the night with U2's Streets Have No Name, With Or Without You and Beautiful Day.
I was thinking here we go, double coils are great for rock but too smooth on the highs and I'm gonna have no chime for this type of music. The middle position had a nice chime to it, I was surprised, it's a versatile guitar, I'm sure the all maple neck helps to get some snap.

I have the matching "Barney purple" Tele Charvel, and
I love it also. It's really easy to play.
Congrats!

Nice.

FWIW, mine in not heavy. :)
Mine's really heavy. Some are saying they are heavy and some are saying they are light.

I spent a while today fixing her up...getting a bit of fret buzz...the 15th fret just needed to be pounded down a bit, set the action/intonation. Really looking forward to gigging tonight to play her again.

The neck tension is fine but how the heck do you get to the truss rod?

It is...tougher string skipping type licks, or fast stuff I had to concentrate on a bit on while playing live is just fluid as heck.
