Always wanted an Explorer, I thought Allen Collins looked so cool with his. Just received this 2008 Explorer. Previous original owner removed finish from back of neck and oiled it and then apparently rarely played it. There is very little playwear and the front is almost perfect except for a few typical hard to see swirls and tiny scratches. The neck was a little raw for me so I sanded it smoother and re-oiled. I think it might have 300k pots but the 500T bridge sounds pretty good. The neck pickup isn't clear enough for me but it's not that bad. Once I lowered the action the guitar itself plays great and has a nice balance of snap/twang/resonance/fullness, really happy with that. The wound strings are not dull and the unwound strings are not thin. Neck profile is a very comfy C, not chunky but not too small either. It's right at 9 lbs so not light but it's a big hunk of wood. It balances well when played sitting or standing. Anybody know what pots came in these?

Back of neck is perfect, super fast and just the right amount of 'raw' for me.

Should definitely be 300k volume, 500k tone. However, most of the Gibson 300k pots I've measured fall more into the 250k range. If you want a little more brightness and spank, I'd drop 500k volumes in there. I always do.

The back of that neck makes me want to touch it! I should give an Explorer a try. Love my LP's so should be a good fit.

I had 500k pots and 50's wiring installed into my #1 LP last year after owning it for 10 years. Everything about the guitar is better now. For me anyway.

Spot on. Both were volumes were ~260k and tone was 490k with a tiny ceramic disc cap. I left tone as is and put a 523k bridge vol and 508k neck vol, both CTS that I had lying around. I loosened them up with some Deoxit first. What a difference! So much more meat to the whole thing and the neck clarity is 10x better.

I'm surprised it took me this long. This thing is really comfortable to play standing up, I mean surprisingly so. It's fine sitting down too but hangs just right when standing.

Mines a 1995 in Cherry. This one is the loudest guitar I have unplugged. Resonates like crazy. Same electronics. The 500T is pretty aggressive. Personally I find the Explorer the most comfortable guitar to play. Congratulations...

I'm really, really digging this thing but it needs a kickstand.
