Bro, Amazing score on that! I wouldn't have even thought about it if I had that king of oppurtunity. If you're looking for a player then it doesn't matter if it's a little "loved" especially for one of those. Man, I just paid 2200 for mine last week. BTW, love that neck shim lol. Almost all the EVH and axis I've seen have been shimmed from the factory. If you can help me figure out how to put a pic up I'll post mine. It's a trans blue and about an 8.5 out of 10

thanks to a great tip I figured out the pictures...all I had to do was scroll down a little and it was right there lol. Anyways this is the evh I just picked up,and I threw my wolfie in there just for fun. I've had many wolfgangs but this is my first ebmm evh. I've also had a few axis, I disagree with anyone that says they're the same. Anyways, this is a 95 and in great shape. Cost me an arm and a leg but well worth it.

dude wtf, how does a guitar go from purple to that color?

cool snag!

I've read that they had problems with the dye they used in some the earlier production runs. I had a trans black one that turned a nasty greyish green color...
I bought a black one new. They were green.

Sweet guitar, I think they look cooler when they're old and well played.

As you can see from my transblack, it had a greenish hue also. But, I actually thought that was very cool. It's a cool color!

Black is the hardest color to do, took Hamer years to offer it until they nailed it.

You're right it's not coming off   I basically cleaned all of the funk of it and hit with steel wool and about 8 thin coats of tung oil over the course of a few days. Hit it with some gunstock wax and buffed. The stains are still there and the nice amber color but now it's clean and smooth as silk. I'll post some pics when I get it back from the shop. Having the frets leveled and dressed etc....

I was going to recommend some Lysol? This is why we don't eat fried chicken while we play our nice high-end guitars.
:bleh:

Love the guitar. One of my biggest gear regrets is selling the EVH and Axis that I used to own. Sold it because I was endorsing ESP at the time and never really got a chance to play the EBMM's. You got a great deal, as you already know.

While I'm here, I have a question/favor to ask of you or any other EVH/Axis owner... would any of you be willing to take a look under the saddles of your MM/Gotoh Floyd and tell me (or take a picture) of their method of shimming the bridge's stock 14" radius up to match the 10" radius of the fretboard?

I'm having a custom guitar built for me that (obviously, a little inspired by the EBMM's) will have a 10" fb radius, and I am using a Gotoh FR on it. I know the OFR achieves its 10" radius by using a 1-piece shim underneath the A, D, G, & B saddles. I believe that removing this brings the radius to 12" however, not 14" as on the Gotoh.

I will see what I can dig up from my parts box or something to compensate you for your time.

Thanks.

I took the gotoh floyd apart when I cleaned the guitar and their is no shim under the saddles. I believe they achieve the radius by changing the height of each individual saddle and then they are installed in the correct position to achieve the correct radius. I didn't know the gotoh had a 14" radius?? I have a set of graphtechs inbound so I will take a pic of the bridge when I take it aprt again...

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply.

The Gotoh FR has a 13.78" radius (350mm), so it's almost 14".

Maybe EBMM has custom saddles made by Gotoh for the Axis/EVH?

Here is a diagram of the GE1996T, provided by Gotoh. It has all the measurements for the unit:

Thanks again.

when are we going to see cleaned up pics man? i'm interested to see how it came out!

Ok, here are some updated pictures after I cleaned it up. I'l try to take some outdoor pics soon for a true comparison. Totally disassembled it, cleaned everything, steel wooled and oiled the neck, replaced the nut, neck mounting screws and anything else that was toast and took it over to Jason at Too Many Guitars for a fret leveling/grind/polish and set up. Plays and sounds fantastic. I don't think I have ever had a guitar that was perfectly intonated until now so I'm bringing the rest of my axes to him for the treatment:

thing came out looking great dude. I just dropped mine off at my tech for a fret level/polish and set up. I was trying to hold out as long as possible because I couldnt stop playing it plus he wants to reshim the neck and I wasnt to crazy about that. finally gave in, they've never steered me wrong in the past 4 years and 12 or so guitars I've brought to them. The EVH is just such an amazing guitar though, am I right? I'm actually thinking about getting rid of the wolfie to get another. I'm glad it came out good for you man

Nice! Even though it started-out as purple, it's got a nice, vintage look to it now. Just OOZES tone by the look of it.

Looks very cool, great job! I like that antiqued look. It looks like it's from the 50's or something.

Thanks. It sort of reminds me of an old faded un-burst les paul and the mileage definately adds to playability as well. I initially bought it with the intent to sell (at least that's what I told my wife ;) ) but the other guitar player in my band told me he would break my arm if I did

Lookin good! But you should try spot-cleaning that neck with some Endust (Wax-free formula) sprayed on an old rag. Trust me, it's non-damaging and is simply magic. As others have said, 0000 grade steel wool works well for the next step...I use it wrapped underneath an old credit card to get right up to the fret wire (it also cleans & polishes the fret wire as an added bonus). But this step works best after the Endust. Congrats on a sweet guitar!
