Well... here's something you dont see everyday. Today I just received my brand-new 2011 Gibson Les Paul 1958 Historic Reissue R8 in Allman Burst! Score, touchdown, game over! I've been looking for a killer darkburst or tobacco sunburst R9 for quite sometime and stumbled across this magnificent specimen. She weighs a in at a light 8 lbs. 6 oz. and has a super-dark, jet-black fretboard. Oh... there's some flamey maple figuring on the top too.
:D

She's got a nice medium sized neck, super-clear and resonant acoustic tone, and plays great out of the box. She has a failry fat, warm, full tone, with just enough bite/edge and sounds like the ideal LP tone in your head.

From what I can gather there were only 5 of these figured R8 Allman Burst LPs made for a special Gibson dealer. It's basically a special run with all the specs of your standard R8, but in a custom color and with a flame maple top... basically an R9 in a custom color. Cool huh? Anywho... enough yap, yap... on to the porn:

PS: My photos do not do this top justice. The flame is everywhere and the color is simply stunning in person.

beautiful guitar. Congrats. I wish I could play an LP. I just can't get along with the wide flat frets. I've tried to like them but never found one in over 20 years that felt right to me. Always liked the way they look though.

Congrats, nice looking LP. Is that one chambered ?

You could always get one re-fretted with your choice of fret wire.

Nope... solid, non-weight relieved, no-holes drilled, solid mahogany body. I also bought a new 2011 R7 a few weeks ago that weighed only 8 lbs. 5 oz. so they put out some light ones this year. Good wood is good.

True but with the binding on the neck I assume a refret would be pricey.

Yep. That is the one. The one that I would trade a nut for. Great score!

Good Lawd...It's rare you see a reissue or a historic that looks like and "old" one and this one does. The top is really nice
