Found a great deal on Reverb a few weeks ago so had to treat myself for my 40th birthday!

The Jem middle pickup is a bit weak so positions 2 and 4 are a pretty useless, but it's a very cool guitar and my first maple neck one too.

Any suggestions for a beefier middle PU?

I remember wanting one back then because it was among first fixed Ibanez to catch my eye. And I was so sick of my whabby bar one I had haha

Happy NGD! ??

Am I correct that - contrary to Ibanez 'Wizard' offerings - the neck on the PG signature is actually pretty chunky?

Very cool guitar!!!

Congrats!! I love the 301. I've had one for about 17 or 18 years. I've played that guitar so much the fretboard is browned out, natural relic I guess, but love the look.

I disabled the middle pickup and lowered it out of the way, never used it. Put in a 3way switch for the 2 humbuckers. I've gone through many pickups over the years with it, but the last couple years I've had a set of Dimarzio Utopia's and they work well. Big full sound with good bite, chugs well, just a great playing guitar.

The newer PGM models are chunky, but the 301 is very thin. 17-19mm if I recall correctly.

It's definitely thicker than I expected to a usual Ibanez, it's really nice tbf!

Very cool! I'm hoping it'll stay with me as long too.

I might just eventually replace the middle PU with a Dimarzio FS-1 which is supposed to be a bit beefier sounding. Both humbuckers clean up really well I noticed too.

Definitely feels like a longer neck compared to my Suhr and Charvel too - along with the maple it makes the guitar quite twangy, but in a good way.
