Im bored at work so i figured i would help pass the time away by sharing some pics of my latest KL explorer. Alot of you guys have already seen it on facebook and instagram but theres peeps that dont follow me that might like it. Ive had the guitar for almost a month but I rarely make ngd threads anymore, i still buy stuff all the time though.
So if you like seeing my gear its best to follow my instagram at les_zombie

Im a hetfield fan and ive been wanting this guitar for a long time, this is my 5th KL but i think its my favorite so far. Im really love the feel of the neck, i have said for years that i think ken builds the finest guitars.

I still have the trans black black KL with the dragon inlay but im gonna be sending it off to ken to refinish it and remove the poly finish and change it to the oil/wax finish.

Specs:
Honduran mahogany body and neck
Chechen top
Braz fretboard
Black mother of pearl inlays
Red fiber optics
Water buffalo horn knobs
Emgs- everybody hates them but i love them so kiss my ass!!

Might as well show ya my esp white iron cross too haha.

Killer KL and Iron Cross man!!

Seeing those made me pull out my diamond plated ESP Explorer for the first time in probably a year. Brought back my love for the Explorer. Only one I have left. Forgot how HUGE sounding and comfortable to play that thing is.

What are your thoughts on the EMG Het Set vs. the regular EMG 81/81 or EMG 60/81 combo?

For a while I thought I preferred the Het Set but after some time of a/b ing them I personally really think nothing beats the EMG 81 in the bridge if going for EMG's. It's just so great sounding.

the hetset is nice, i like them but ive been playing the 81/60 combo for the past 15 yrs and its still my favorite.
im a little curious how the hetset would sound in this KL, i have a extra set that i could put in it one of these days.

i totally agree about how comfortable the explorer is to play, i also have a diamond plated explorer, esp jh-2 and for many yrs it was my dream guitar and ive had some nice offers to sell it but i made that mistake once and i dont wanna do it again. so unless i get a offer i cant refuse i will be keeping that jh-2 for a long time.

I know what you mean. I still have my JH-3 and have had some great offers to sell but just can't let it go. It was my dream guitar also and still love it to this day even though my ESP's don't get the playing time they use to.

jh-3 is awesome, i want sell that one either. it sounds great and its full thickness and thats another reason i love it.
do you still have the kelly hayes? that was another cool esp.

Wow! Congrats on the new beauty! It must be quite a sight to be in a room with your gear collection, you sure have good taste.
BTW do/did you own that macassar ebony KL as well? That one's got to be my favorite.

Yeah, still have the Kelly Hayes also. It's another that I really don't see myself selling.

Do have a couple of ESP's I've thought of letting go but just haven't decided or got around to it. My ESP 4 knob/long horn Eclipse and my ESP Grey Truckster.

Do you still have all your KL's? I've always thought of getting one but don't think I could handle the wait time. Is Ken's backlog still 2-3 years?

I only have 2 KL's out of the 5.
i sold the cocobolo that i got from ansley to tonemonster, i sold the red olive ash burl to another forum member but cant remember the name right now, and my trans black with no inlay went to stevek who sold it and it switched hands a few times.

so i have my new chechen and the trans black dragon that brian owned and sold to ronni who sold it to stevek who sold it to me, that guitar has been in cali, norway, saudi arbia and now on the east coast with me haha.

KL makes uch nice explorers....that ESP Iron Cross is classy as heck too! \m/

Awesome Tom! You have quite the guitar collection. Enjoy!!

Very nice, that KL is a beauty! Hope to have one built someday.

Your Lawrence is just beautiful. Does it play and sound as great as it looks?

thanks for the kind words everybody, nice to see theres others that like these guitars.

i can honestly say this KL plays and sounds as good or better than it looks, i really love it and bonded with it quick.

the esp is cool too, overall it sounds great and its well built. i have played it alot over the last couple months but my only gripe is that its not a full thickness body like my jh-3. the regular thickness eclipse is popular with alot of people but i never seem to get used to the thinner bodys. this guitar is much nicer than my black truckster.
