Finally, someone not trying to take advantage of the pandemic pricing. Honest guy selling for what he paid years ago. I responded to a CL ad for a different Tokai. I was trying to educate myself on these and he’s really knowledgeable on the years and models. I drug my feet for too long and it sold. But, he told me about another one he was thinking about selling that was more expensive. After about 20 emails and 3 weeks, he suggested we just meet and check it out. He ended up bringing 3 guitars for me to checkout and I ended up buying one that we didn’t previously discuss.

it’s a 1989 EG-1000D (EG59-100 with Duncan’s). Nitro finish, long tenon, ABR bridge, bone nut and these came with Duncan APH-1s stock. 50s wiring with metal braid, and PIO caps. Insanely loud unplugged

Killer I got a 79 and 80 Greco that I bought new. I sold many LP but those 2 greco`s have stayed.

Nice!
Ever play an Edwards? Another great LP bargain.

Grecos are great. I've had a 79 EG500, and 2 84 Sykes. They are a nice bargain and all 3 were a step up IMO from the 98 Edwards Sykes I had. Comparable to a standard, but half the price.
Congrats!

Had an Edwards JP relic about 15 years ago that was
really sweet after a pup upgrade.

Awesome guitars!!! What did you get that for? Those are great!!

MIJ Les Pauls are absolutely killer. I have a Bacchus LP Custom that is seriously better than the 04 Gibson Custom I had.
Nice score!
I’ve had six Bacchus’ and my buddy has had two and every one has been killer.

Just noticed the nut on that. Interesting how it gets thinner for the wound strings.
I'd assume to help prevent them from sticking in the nut?

Cool touch.

I didn’t notice, but it holds tuning remarkably well. I don’t think that’s factory work, but i can see how it would help

I paid $1000 locally, so not taxes and shipping and it came with a hard shell case. The EG59-60 and 70 models have been fetching $1300 and this is a few models up

it’s insane that people are asking 500-800 for epiphones now and asking $1200 and up for studios. I honestly would put this over the quality of a US standard and about 85%+ of reissue quality. It’s better that the similar era prehistorics.

Big fan of Japanese Les Pauls. I've got an Edwards Custom and a Bacchus Goldtop. A 70s Greco is next on my list, they're straight-up copies of Norlin-era Pauls.

How are you liking it?

As a current owner of 3 vintage Burny's and having owned a Greco and more Burny's, this gets my seal of approval big time!
You scored it at a great price. Good specs too!
In Europe EG-1000's would easily go over $1500. There's one guy in France, big time collector of Orville, Greco's, Burny's, Tokai's, etc, who regularly sells awesome guitars, but for serious dough.
If I saw yours locally for $1000, I would have jumped on it too...still thinking about adding a MIJ Les Paul, although I gravitate more towards Greco and Burny than towards Edwards or Bacchus. They feel too modern for me, or something, plus ugly ass logo's. Whereas especially late 70's Greco's had these awesome headstocks.
The attachment is from some 10 yr old Ebay listing, that I just saved this picture from.
