I give you, the Bernie Rico Jr. Hesparian Slant 6.

To be completely honest... I had almost given up on ever getting this thing. When I ordered it, I was promised a 3 month return time... Obviously that didn't happen. I've been pretty pissed lately about the lack of communication from the builder on this, but the past few weeks, he's actually been great. At this point, I really didn't have any expectations, as I'd been let down time and time again on the completion of this guitar, but it's finally here... and all I can say is:

WOW!

As many of you know, I've had some great guitars over the years, ranging from high end PRS, Custom Shop Gibson, Blackdroid, LACS Ibanez, USA Jackson, Custom Shop Charvel, Oni - Hell, I even had a Blackmachine B2 at one point and to be completely honest, every single one of them completely fails in comparison to the neck on this guitar.

What a neck.

Until now, I've been touting the Blackmachine B2 as the best playing guitar I've had, and this thing honestly just kills it. It's completely in a league of its own, as far as I'm concerned.

Sound-wise, I still prefer my Jackson, but that's probably also due to the fact that I had Bernie put a pair of DiMarzio D-Activator Xs in it, which are INSANELY high output. My Jackson has a pair of BKP Nailbombs in it, which I think are a bit more my style... though I really dig the neck DiMarzio (if you know anything about me, I generally hate neck pickups), it might be a keeper. Definitely much beefier and brutal sounding than my Jackson. Not as much clarity with these pickups, though, which I didn't really expect them to have. Guess I'll just have to throw a BKP in the bridge now! :D

wow, that is stunning. and i agree about the neck on these, ive never played anything that comes close to it. congrats!!! cool finish too.

I like that guitar more than some of your other ones. No offense.

Damn sexy bro.

HNBRJD

Beautiful. I love those headstocks!
Why the slant neck pickup? What does it do? Do the poles line up?

With such high output pickups sometimes it can clear things up if you move them away from the strings. Helped on my Charvel.

Beautiful guitar, congrats.

What's the deal on the slanted neck pickup?

Congrats, your new guitar is amazing!!
ps: like hunter said lower the pickups... otherwise BKP !!

To answer all the "Why the slanted neck pickup?" It is just the way Bernie leaves that little bit of angle on the edge of the fretboard to stay in line with the appearance with the guitars he does that has 27 frets. And lets be honest here, the difference that it makes will be very little.

Oh man 21 months. I was told mine would take 6-9 months. Its been 6 months already, guess I can look forward to 9 months or more. How did you keep your sanity?

Why did it take so long, was it extra custom or what?

beautiful!!! this is from his special dealio that overwhelmed him with orders?

This gives hope to those of us still waiting for our Rico Jr's.

So, would you be willing to part with your Blackmachine? I've been longing for a B2 or B6 for many years.

Enjoy!

Nice, dig all the grain patterns. Seems well worth the wait.

That truly is a gorgeous piece. Congratulations on finally getting it.

I'd honestly count on 2 years

It was part of the Black Friday sale from 2010. The original 3 month wait time was because we were all under the impression that the bodies and necks were done on these guitars, all that needed to be done was putting everything together and routing for hardware, adding any custom features and putting it through the paint booth. That was only true for the first couple of them, after that he was building these from scratch, and the wait time got severely out of hand. There were originally only 15 guitars for sale, but he ended up taking over 100 orders. This has been a huge fiasco, which you can follow on the Seven String forum, the official thread has nearly 100 pages on the subject.

I was getting pretty irate about the wait time, but I knew if I sold my spot, then the guitar would probably be done soon and I'd be kicking myself for not sticking it out. Glad I did, the wait time was worth every second.

Got rid of the Blackmachine long ago. Honestly, I couldn't afford to keep it. It was a really cool guitar, but the price tag was absolutely ridiculous.

Look... I'm already a horndogger for neck-thrus. Check.
I'm always a fan of flamed tops. Check.
I totally prefer non-trem guitars. Check.
Mega fan of translucent bursts. Check.

Where do you live and typically, what times are you away from your house :student:

You know, not that i want it or anything...

Aside from the envy, congrats
