I love this guitar to death and the Alnico APH-1 in the neck is just super rightous and I find it much better then a 59 by leaps and bounds...

So what makes the APH-1 better than a '59. I'd love to know the differences because I'm 59 fan.

i have a 59 in the neck of one les paul, and an alnico 2 pro in the necks of all my others.

the 59 is cleaner sounding, more...clear and well rounded sounding, definitely a great pickup, but more mellow and kinda uncolored, and they REALLY match well with any solid state rig...some of dimebag's best solo's were on a 59. again, a great pickup, and for someone that wants less pickup coloration, and more of the guitar's natural wood sound unenhanced...almost like amplifying the guitar's "sound" acoustically , i'd go with this.

the alnico 2pro (not the slash model, i dont have that one) sings longer, is more vocal, and throaty. i love this pickup in any humbucker guitar...it really enhances and brings out the best in the guitar's natural electric sounds that tend to want to sing and overtone etc..

the 59 is like wearing regular grey sunglasses.

the alnico is like wearing semi-dark amber polarized sunglasses.

not that i look at the world through rose colored glasses.... :)

Thanks for the description. It sounds like I might be looking for new neck pickups soon. :)

Had that exact guitar. Sounded great, played great. Tuning was suspect.
Had to sell it.

Hmmmmmmm....

Suspect?

:D

Yeah, pretty ironic that you post a pic of a tuner. I about wore mine out trying to make that thing stay in tune. I just hate Floyd Roses. :aww:

Weird as I find Floyd guitars to stay in tune WAY more consistently than stop tail bridges. I am always messing with my hardtail guitars, but my Floyded guitars are almost always in tune, even if I don't pick them up for months.

Is the JB too bright in the So-Cal? I got a So-Cal recently as well. I can't say i love the Tone Zone, but its OK. I am thinking a Duncan Custom might be in order once I decide if the neck is too thin for me, and if it will stay.

For what it's worth, I had a 2010 San Dimas (H-S-S version) with a Floyd Rose. I'll tell ya, I never had to unlock that guitar's tremolo until I wanted to change string gauges and needed to remove the old ones. On the old Ibanez guitars and other cheap superstrats I've owned over the years, the ability to stay in tune was about as likely as Van Halen's new album appearing.

@ Shask - The JB sounded KILLER in my alder bodied San Dimas. It had a very cool George Lynch sort of vibe going for it, which was exactly what I needed at that time. I'm sure it would sound equally as good in the SoCal.
