Killer guitar! Just feels so solid and plays outstanding. The Tone Zone needs to go. I like some of the characteristics of it but the low end just isn't go to work for me. Very soft in the low end. Looking for some suggestions on a good set of pickups. I like a nice tighter low-end with a throaty mid range with a bit of an edge. Don't typically go for high output but I've got a few guitars that are hot paf style.so I'm open on this one.

These suggestions are going to be all over the place; but what style of music do you play? Im a big fan of the suhr Aldrich, duncan nazgul, and the duncan custom, for different applications.

I have one with a crunch lab and Liquifire that is great, and another with EVO's

Dimarzio Steve's special, really tight low end with special crunch in the mids.
AT-1, similar to ToneZone but overall less bass and more clarity.
Duncan Parallel axis - great for beef up trem guitars.
BKP Holy Diver - less tight but very good in basswood.
Each of those is very universal pickup.

I’ve been playing Strats since 1972 (I was 8) and bought my fist Ibanez in Marshall in 1984. Loved all of the RG550’s V1/V2 & V7/V8 Ibanez Sets.

I recently sold one of two of my Prestige RG2570’s due to tone. I still have a silver model that has a thicker textured finish. It sounds phenomenal. I went through a couple others as backup guitars but they never came close to the silver RG that ended my hunt.

I know your point is what pickups. I put Gibson 498-T’s in the Strat bridge positions and usually call it done as they are thick, articulate & IMO not over wound. I only by the models pulled out of Lester’s or SG’s etc... as they are not wired for coil tap as the otc models are.

On the secondary issue of finish John Suhr has some interesting views on how toasting “bake/burning” the guitar body and any certain type finish truly adds or subtracts to the affect of the guitar tone.

In Summary: Old Gibson 498-T

Thanks for the input! Its actually a mahogany body. Anyone try a Norton? Might pair well with the Air Norton in the Neck.

I had one in mahagony RGA121H. Also very good all-around pickup, tight bass, enough mids and nothing shrill in top end. It is not so compressed like TZ, more like Fred, nice harmonic content. AN is great for neck for every mid/hi output bridge DiMarzio.
