I received my suhr modern satin hsh floyd about a month ago from willcuts. Unfortunately the guitar had glue on the fret board as well as a small amount of shielding paint on the front of the guitar by the middle pickup.

Willcuts took care of everything and suhr fixed everything free of cost. They also worked me out a deal on a hard shell case.

This is my venture back into 24 fret guitars and i feel like out of all the 24 fret guitars that i have played this one feels more like a "normal guitar". I don't notice the extra length of the fret board and i don't get lost either. The guitar weighs 6.5 lbs and has a great satin broken in feel. I have a strat that weighs the same amount but the modern handles and feels lighter to play.

The things that really stand out on this guitar are first and foremost the sound. The African mahogany neck and body is like a mix of mahogany and swamp ash in one guitar. You get the the snappy resonant qualities of swamp ash without it being overly compressed and cold. And you get the warmth and complexity of a mahogany guitar with ought and overbearing mid hump.

I will say this guitar does sound pretty tight as well. The ssh+ is a perfect match for this guitar and its probably the first guitar i have owned that i did not want to switch the pickups out on.

The ssv is great neck pickup as well and is perfectly matched with the bridge. I am not sure what i think about the middle pickup just yet. I think i am getting a little nicer cleans that i did with just h/h split. Plus you also get the middle pickup sound which is just that a "middle sound".

My primary reason for getting the middle pickup was because i have never had a guitar that had one outside a fender strat. I also happen to think the modern just looks better with the middle pickup. I won't lie i do find myself hitting it with a pick every once in a while but it is not a deal breaker.

The coolest observation i have made about this guitar so far is the neck! Suhr has managed to make a neck that does not feel round nor flat thick nor thin. I really can see why they chose the guthrie sizing because it is just perfect.

I also enjoy the straight 14" radius. I really feel like 14" is the perfect compromise. Once again it does not feel round like a 12" or flat like 16". The radius really does compliment the neck sizing on this guitar. Compared to my 12-16" radius mike lull the straight 14" is more natural. I did not really notice it as much on their standard 10-14" suhr's .

The fretwork stands up to my mike lull guitar which is also plek'd. They must use different fret wire because they look and feel a little thinner which is fine.

The floyd rose came perfectly intonated and it stays in tune like a champ.

The strings came set around 1.5 mm with approx .010 of relief which is a happy medium for me. usually i play with a straighter neck and higher action but the way suhr sets the guitar up feels more natural and is easier to play on the lower strings.

I really have fallen in love with the modern shape i think it looks great and unique and it fits your body like no other guitar i have ever played. My only issue with the modern body style is your hand can feel a little cramped in the higher register. I don't know if its bad technique but i find my knuckled hitting the lower horn. Also you have to work a little to get to the 23 and 24th fret...not that i will be playing those a whole lot.

Overall i will say this is the best "overall guitar" i have ever owned. The Modern satin is a great guitar to get your feet wet with the suhr line. I feel like part of the money you are spending on this guitar is for the neck shape, and the unique body style.

Sometimes you buy an expensive guitar and it comes down to the woods used and the pickups/hardware but with this guitar i feel like your getting some actual design and technology . All the specs they have picked are a perfect middle ground of what they offer. I can't imagine how sweet a roasted maple neck with oil or what of their exotic necks must feel.

Also there are so many tones you can achieve with this thing that you could probably take it to any kind of gig and be able to coax a sound out of it. I may try to get it wired so i can have a few more options between the neck and the humbucker but for now i am very happy.

Besides getting a guitar with a few initial issues i could not be happier with my purchase. I still feel like the modern Satin is the best value guitar being made at this point of time. I would buy this over and ibanez all day long just based on the ss frets and the pickups these come with which i feel are just as good as some of the Bkp i have played.

Willcuts is a great dealer with some very competitive pricing they were nothing but helpful through the entire process. Even though they let this one slip through the cracks they have made me rethink my customer service in my business as well as the guitar shops i have to deal
