Great guitar! Needed some setup tweaks from the previous owner, but overall just a kick ass guitar! it's a 25.5 scale but string tension is different, just feels .... different. I usually play 10's, they feel like 11's on this guitar, not sure why? Doesn't make sense to me so I may have to try 9's on this one. badass guitar!!!!!

Congratulations, those Modern Satins are great IMO. I don't notice a difference between my Satins and my other guitars myself, in regards to the string tension. :dunno:

One of the guitars in my short list. Where’s the pics???

Congrats, awesome guitars. Seems to be a run on Modern Suhr’s lately (myself included)

Nice Score. Super happy with mine, great guitars!

Regarding differences in tension - I just happened to be reading up on Gotoh 510 blocks last night. In one thread, I read the Satins use the Gotoh zinc block. This zinc block has deeper set holes for the strings. This is said to actually decrease string tension so, this all seems odd that the satin would have higher tension. Perhaps truss rod is really tight.

Btw, based on my research, the zinc used on the Gotoh blocks is the liquid cast not powder cast. The liquid cast is said to be much superior. I was looking into this because I have a Gotoh EV510T-FE trem with the zinc and was curious what differences the steel block would offer.

The block on mine is the regular 510 "angled" block, which I assume is the zinc block. I had been looking at the full size block 510s for my own builds because I have never been happy with Fender trems that use the angled blocks. I would not characterize my satin as having high string tension by any means. I would say that there is more string tension on the 510 vs. the neon drip floyd I just got though.

On another note, the Modern satin has the modern elliptical .800-.850 neck profile, 10-14" compound radius and 1.650" nut width. The neon drip I just got has those same dimensions but is Modern Elliptical GG spec. I'm not sure what difference between GG spec and the modern satin there is considering the dimensions are the same on paper and both are supposed to be Modern Elliptical. That being said, the GG spec feels better in my hand. The GG Spec feels fuller and slightly more comfortable to me so far.

I'm wondering now if it's because of a different brand of string. On a whim I tried Elixr 10's. I rarely venture away from Slinky 10-46's. I've tried lots of others but always migrate back. All I know for sure is that when compared to my strats and PRS's, string bending feels at least one guage heavier. Strangest shit ever.

I was flirting with the idea of the brass block for this trem from FU, but being all mahogany with no maple, I'm not sure the additional "warmth" is needed? Anyone try the brass block on a modern satin? Also, for a guitar this light i can not believe how balanced it is. When I picked it up I figured it would be neck-heavy....wrong! It's very comfortable to wear and play!

All that being said, I've got it set up now, action slammed is low and fast and it is a BEAST! pics up this weekend.

Just to clarify, the Modern Satins have always came with a straight 14" fingerboard radius unless they just recently changed this it still should be. The GG spec was the first time Suhr used the .800-.850 neck carve (before that it was the .780-.830 & the .820-.870 carves) ...and the true GG also had a 16" fingerboard radius and 1.650 nut width. Although, I know most now have the 10-14" compound.

One thing I can tell you after owning several Moderns with the .800-.850 carve, is that they can vary...I would assume due to the final sanding. I've had a few that felt significantly thicker, and one I could tell just by feel had a wider nut width than the 1.650 width it was suppose to be and measured it thereafter to confirm it. I can say the Satins seem to be very consistent though. I have two and both feel identical in feel.

From what I read and understand.
The modern satin are okoume aka African "mahogany". But tonally this wood is supposed to be brighter than traditional mahoganies we are used to on Gibson's and such. I too am thinking of changing, just cause...

Elixir strings have more string tension than most strings. It's probably that.

very strange the thing you report about the string tension.
I have 2 modern satin (one is a "T") and they both feel way "softer" to play compared to my other guitars.. mostly because of the awesome fretjob and SS frets I suppose.
They are my 2 only guitars that I didn't have to setup when I received them.. simply amazing workmanship, same goes with every Suhr I've had the pleasure to lay my hands on in shops.
