Cool, same guitar, different year I believe. Korean?
You might want to try some 11's on it, they actually feel really nice on the 24.75 scale. I've always used 11-49's on my 301.

It's actually Indonesian. I'm also wondering if these aren't already 11s. I struggle with 10s but these things are brutal. I got up early to do some guitar playing and my fingers are TORCHED from playing last night so I ended up just banging on chords this morning. Of course, part of that's because I'm not in practice, but hopefully I'm on my way to solving that problem.

Thanks for the tip.

Very nice, congrats! I might get another one of these eventually...really miss my old one! 10-48 were my choice for mine.

Which model did you have? I'm generally a creature of habit and play only one guitar, meaning even if it's a super strat for example, I'll play a single model and may have a couple of them. Not sure this will be my only guitar type, whether I'll fall out of love with it altogether or whether I might learn how to play more than one guitar but I've been thinking about moving away from the floating trem for a while now and I'm loving the ability to tune to drop D in a second with this Viper.

We shall see.

Nice, can't believe how good that looks.
Is this one of the new (MIJ) ltd's?

Bitchin' guitar! Must be 11s on there... 10s should feel like 9s on 24.75 scale guitar tuned to E Standard...

Nope, it says Indonesia on the headstock.

Thanks bro and yeah, this thing is a freaking bear to bend on and it's even messing with my picking technique. I'm pretty sure they're 11s so I may just drop to 10s to see how it feels before going to my trust-rusty 9s.

Nice. My buddy had played his viper ltd for years, I've been trying to convince him to pick up an actual ESP, he's never wanted anything different.

Congrats, HNGD!

If this thing rocks my world and converts me, I'll probably do exactly that and eventually get the ESP version although I have to say, this thing plays like no other guitar I've played in the price range... heck, it plays better than most guitars I've played in the $1k-$2k range.

My buddy has the exact guitar and I noticed back to back to mine that his is lighter and has less of a nut width. It felt a little small in my fretting hand compared to my older MIK Viper 301 that I'm used to. Actually, it felt very similar to the EC-1000's from a few years back. (the purple/green/blue years)

Mine is also really heavy, I mean like LP heavy. That is part of it's problem right now, is that it's so heavy that the stock pickups don't have the crispness or clarity to counteract the bodies naturally dark resonance. I really want some Blackouts for it.

Thanks Phil!

Very interesting. I expected the neck width to be wider but was very pleased with both fingerboard width and neck thickness. It's very comfortable to me. I guess if I get a different model I'll want to play it first.

Yeah, come to think of it, his is an Indo 401FM.
I've found all these guitars play and sound great. Just slight differences in size/shape & feel from year to year. Nothing enough to dissuade me as a buyer. Love 'em.

I have a MIK Viper 400 that I have always liked. Sometimes it annoys me because of the neck drop, but it is definitely an easy playing guitar. I would probably keep it over my Gibson....

Specs then and now list these all with the standard 42mm nut width

I thought the 300fm was made in china. The current 300m's are mic, and he only difference between them and he fm is the flamed veneer top...wierd

I had one awhile back that was a kinda brown burst with the flag inlays and EMG-HZ pickups, was a pretty good guitar. This one looks thicker than the one I had, I seem to recall it was more like a Gibson thickness-wise... I bet the balance on this one is pretty good since the Body looks pretty deep. Nice guitar!

HNGD Bob! Ya go with the 9's already ;).

I've played a couple of the older Vipers (the local shop actually carries them  ), liked the way the play and always wondered abt getting one...and then I realize I'm not comfortable with the LOOKS. None of my heroes play that shape...well, who are Jakey Lou Williams, Angus Young, and Adrian Smith if not my heroes?! Should be able to go past that.

What's wrong with me?!

Oops got derailed there :D sry abt that.

Edited to mention that I have mad respect for Tony Iommi but he's not big on my hero department ;) .
