Arrived today...not had much time on it...need to set it up, action was horrible...tension feels a little high too...wonder what strings is on there...hmm...I suck at playing the best of times but on this one even more so :D

I love the feel of the nekkid wood though

The neck is nice and straight/flat though...pretty much the way it should be....very thin too...

Not sure if it's the shape of the body (i.e. where it sits on the gut) or the angle of the foream rest but feels like my picking hand is slightly further forward (away from the bridge) than what I'm used to...guess I'll just wear it slightly lower :D

The Washburn (Licensed) Floyd (Schaller?) looks sturdy as hell...seems to have a lot of mass..trem is pretty stiff in action but the upside of that is a nice positive return to true

Can't say I'm a fan of either pickup choice for this...the bridge L500 kinda does one thing (the whole 80s harmonic thing and trebly lead stuff) ... lacks oomph or something in the lower registers to me..I reckon a JB or TB-5 would do it better justice but I didn't have much time to play. The Neck pickup probably just needs the height tweaking on it...guess it's a '59 or summat.

ROTFLmonkies....usual flubbage, wankage and inadequacy

For those of you that can stomach this crap:

wtf...that was 2 minutes when I uploaded it

Camera mic killed the lows and absolutely slaughtered the high end :-/

the L500 is an aquired taste. I actually like it for what it does. It's got a very "in your face" feel to it.

Dunno how different that one is from the L500XL, but I thought that thing was one of the worst pickups ever. Nothing but harsh high end fizz.

They're probably similar....there's a lot of high end...seems to do okay with distortion tho' plus I'm 38 and concert abused..so my high end is probaly 12kHz at the most ;)

Sweet...now you can trade me your Jem!

Ironically the JEM cost more USED than this one did NEW...

What is the body wood?

Mahogany....plus Ebony fretboard....my latest fetish....just made me want this guitar :D

Congrats, that thing is sweet. What are these going for ? I have always wanted one of these.

Get an Afwayu from Motor city Pickups and she will smoke!

Very cool!
How does ebony wear on the board vs. hard rock maple? What fret wire size? Compound radius, no doubt?
Something in the back of my head is going "must...have...reverse...almostStrat...CBS...head..."

They are strung at the Custom Shop with D'Addario 10's if I remember correctly. I know we used D'Addario. Might have been 9's.

I'm surprised the setup was horrible. Where did you get it, and did you buy it new? Usually the guy who sets them up does top-notch work, unless someone fooled with it wherever you bought it.

BTW, nobody at the Custom Shop likes the pickup choice for the N series. The L500's are really, really inconsistant from pickup to pickup. The neck is a 59, as well.

The bridge is liscenced Floyd, and they are really sturdy. We always used to swap out the posts that come with the units for sturdier hardened steel posts.

Feels like it could be 10s.

Yeah, it's new...nothing wrong with the set-up particularly but the action was set about twice the height I like it, you can see it in the pic I posted of the fretboard end....guess that's a personal thing. It may have been set up by the shop and the guy cut me such a sweet deal so can't complain too much....if I'd told him to nail it to the board, he might have done that for me :D

That does look a hell of a lot higher then it should...or did when they left my bench!

Oh, and a few great bridge pickups for those guitars: SD Custom Custom and SD Custom 5

I wish I could answer those questions..but yeah, I love the look of that headstock :D

If you decide you don't like it, I'll take it off of your hands :D

I've always like the look of those. I want a Paduak or Alder one though.

Stay away from Padauk. It's brittle. We used to get repair jobs on the Padauk N4's: snapped headstocks/necks, cracked bodies, cracked neck joints.

Oh, and it's heavy as shit.
