OK guys, long story shortened out, if you need any clarification just ask. Bought this guitar 2 months ago thinking it was a prototype, returned it within an hour of opening the box without thinking about it(stupid I know) Mentioned I had some concerns about the authenticity at the point of return. Followed through with some research after I returned it and knew immediately I made a mistake. Tried to buy it back the next day but was told it was being sent to gc's corporate office to be authenticated through their counterfeit dept. Only way the guitar would be seen again is if they were 100% sure it was real.
Well, the guitar came back and I snatched it up for a crazy deal. And now the fun begins. I've been trolling through hundreds of pics trying to figure out if it really is a pre production/prototype guitar(btw, reason for thinking this is no,serial number but still stamped with evh sig and pat pend and some slight differences only seen on proto's and early production models...plus the monster quilt you never see on wolfgangs)
After nearly giving up I decide to set the guitar up and look into the Peavey wolfgang owners manual for the setup tips. At this point I've accepted it as a very special wolfgang that I may never be able to fully validate. Then I flip to page 14 and there it is...starring me right in the face. Now I cant be 100% sure until I speak with Peavey but Im asking you guys for some help. As we all know, quilt tops are like a unique signature for a guitar,no 2 will ever be alike in any way. The first picture is the picture from the Peavey manual. Take note in the area between the pups, the unique "lip" type shape. I know the picture is a little blurry but you can see that part pretty well. Im hoping when I contact peavey they will be able to find a color photo in their archives. All the subsequent Pictures are of my Wolfgang.
You guys tell me what you think. Keep in mind the manual was obviously done before the line was released in 96 which would place this guitar being made before the production line first year quilts. I was going to try and curb my excitement and keep this under wraps until I was 100% sure but I think the photos speak for themselves
