Well sort of..... about a year ago, I was in the middle of cleaning house when I stumbled across a bunch of bodies,necks and guitar parts that I had basically forgotten about for years. There was literally enough stuff to make 3-4 guitars so I decided to stop procrastinating( or being lazy, take your pick ) and get around to putting them together. Kinda cool, basically like finding money..
Well here we are a year later and I finally got one finished. Ive really been into the strat thing for awhile now and decided that I needed one; a true single coil ( non noiseless ), non floyd strat. The end result is amazing!!!! This guitar sounds friggin amazing and it plays really well. The neck is scalloped and Im still getting used to it but Im really diggin it. Its setup in Eb with 9's but for some reason, the string tension is really high and my fingers are TORE UP. Im not worried because it feels better every day and its just a matter of getting used to the board. Heres the parts list;
Mighty Mite Maple Strat neck
Mighty Mite swamp ash strat body
BladeRunner Super Vee trem
McConachie Bell Tone Pickups ( http://www.mccon-o-wah.com/ )
I cant stress enough how good this thing sounds. The trem is unreal; has the feel of a floyd but even better tone and resonance than a standard strat trem and its a direct drop in replacement, no routing required and you can pull up as well.The guitar is so resonant and I think that is mostly due to the Bladerunner super Vee trem ( a drop in replacement for a standard strat trem) and the Sperzel tuners that add alot of mass to the headstock. Unplugged, this thing is friggin loud!!!
The pickups are magic; Handwound beauties that are firmly based on Jimi,Trower and SRV. Anthony was over the other night and he was blown away by them and hes a very picky guy. the first words out of anyone who has heard it were " What pickups are in that? It sounds incredible!!"
Im working on getting some clips out in the very near future so bear with me. I definitely need to spend a bit more time getting used to it before I feel confident enough to do that..
All in all, its almost more statisfying than buying a guitar outright. Ive got another one in the works that should be done in the next week or so...
