Well... it has been said... many times and in many ways... that's a MONSTA TOP... Well... I think this one qualifies...

My brand-spankin-new 2016 Gibson 1959 LP R9 Historic Reissue... when Gibson get's it right... they absolutely nail it dead-center:

Arguably the best top and burst-pattern-fade I've seen on a Historic RI in a long, long time... and I've seen/owned quite a few. Not big leaf western-maple... but you wouldn't know it from looking at it. Amazing side to side tiger flame, zero dead-spots, it moves like water in the light, and no cross grain... from eastern flame maple. SCHWING!!!

... and while not as photogenic... I also picked up this week a Gibson Historic 1957 Black Beauty Custom Reissue and a 1968 Gibson Custom Reissue:

yeah... it's been a busy week for me.

Holy shit mang! Nice flame top. You did it up right this week I'd say! Wow.

What do you mean by not as photogenic? That black beauty looks killer. If you don't like her, I am happy to take care for a while ;-)

That's a real stunner man. Huge congrats. You're right about Gibson, when they nail it. It's amazing. Enjoy

Thanks guys!

I've been looking for a true 2014+ monster top R9 for quite awhile. Gibson has gotten away from doing the outrageous over-the-top flame-tops like they did in the late '90s... and moved exclusively to ultra-realistic looking eastern maple, '50s-looking clone tops. I myself like a mind blowing top. Especially if I'm dropping some coin. I like something easy on the eyes. What can I say.

But every now and then a true monster top slips out. And I snagged one. As far as quality goes, all 3 were dead-nuts on as far as tuning and intonation go... no unlevel frets (I checked all 3 with a fret rocker... I guess they got that Plek machine running), no dead spots, orange peel or finish issues, and the action was pretty decent from the factory. I just had to lower the action on the R9 about 1.00 mm. I know this is not the norm as I have owned many dogs too. But when you find a keeper... dam!

Now to put some high-output ceramic BKP pups in these bee-atchez.

Not personally a very big Gibson fan, but when it comes to Gibson, THIS is the way to do it. Congrats!

Congrats bro!!
You know how hard it is to find shit like this left handed, very jealous !! Enjoy

I got a Uber Flamed Les Paul Murphy Aged long time ago, despite the top, it sounded like shit.
I couldn't pass it fast enough.

Congrats!
