NHL Playoffs Thread: Alexander Ovechkin is a cheap SOB!!!!

Did anyone notice how much Malkin starting checking after that cheap ass Ovechkin hit??? He was nailing everything that moved. When he strats getting physical like that I wonder if he isn't the most rounded player in the league.

Being from Philly and a Flyers fan for a long time - seems almost as bad as being a Cubs fan  . I have a hard time liking any Pittsburg team ;) . I am no fan of Ovechkin either but this below is just one of many things that bothers me about Sidney - heck, any other player in the league. The superstars should not get treated different but it has been the same for a long time now.

Either way, I am enjoying the series - probably more without the stress of my team involved.

That was a brutal knee on knee contact. It was really just a reaction by Ovechkin but nonetheless intentional. I'm not saying it was intent to injure, just intentional sticking his leg out, outherwise he would have missed Gonchar entirely. They could have called more than a 2 minute penalty on that play. If it was anyone other than the evil NHL poster boy Ovechkin (good posterboy is Crosby) then I think you'd see a suspension from it. But since the league has such a wide double-standard in that regard of who is the httier, nothing will become of it other that Gonchar being down and out for the count....

Best Balanced player considering all factors:

Datsuk>Crosby>Ovechkin..done

I'll +1 the Datsuk>Crosby, but Ovechkin isn't even on the list of balanced players.

That was shameful, no doubt. And Kunitz hitting Varlamov the other night was shameful too. But both are very isolated incidents. Ovechkin throws those big "hits" (charges) game after game with no regard for whether or not he's going to hurt anybody. He gets away with it because for some reason nobody has put him in his place yet. But I have to think it's only a matter of time.

On a side note did anyone see Ty Domi was hanging with Mario? Didn't know they were tight?

save up that hate for Michael Vick

if michael vick gets reinstated, I hope whoever reinstates him gets bitten to death by an angry dog

I'd take Ovechkin anyday. Crosby is a primadona who doesn't think he should ever get hit. I am unbiased and really didn't think Ovechkin was that out of line. He is an incredible player but doesn't matter much to me because hopefully no one will beat my Red Wings again this year.

Crosby takes a shitload of hits. I've never once heard him say that he should never get hit. Ovechkin is a tool. Just compare the two players when they're on the ice. Ovechkin stands in one spot and waits for someone to set him up for a slap shot or mindlessly skates around looking to hit someone who has their head down. The Kid flies around the ice and is constantly making plays, fighting in the corners for pucks, making ridiculous passes, backchecking, setting up other players with amazing scoring chances, makes incredible plays of his own, etc. Oh, and he also has more goals in the playoffs than Ovechkin. ;)
I don't know man, I think Crosby is a bit of a cherry picker himself. Not as bad as Lemieux was, but still.

And of course Crosby has never said he should never get hit. That would put a big, fat bullseye on his ass. By no means am I an Ovechkin fan, but I do think Crosby and Ovechkin are the two best players in hockey.

I hated Vick before he got in trouble for dog fighting. He's a terrible quarterback.

I think Vick's days of quarterbacking are done. He should be hated for sure though. And even though I hate Ovechkin too, I probably hate Kobe Bryant, Derek Jeter and Tiger Woods more.

The hit was unintentionally knee on knee. Ovechkin sized Gonchar up and led with his right shoulder for the hit. Gonchar tried to poke check the puck past Ovechkin around the boards and then squirm away from the impending crunch, thus exposeng his knee.

The two guys are former teammates with a long standing friendship. A game is a game, but to say there was malice involved on Ovechkins part is ridiculous.

Pat White > Michael Vick

WildPat Offense FTW!

I hate to say it, because my brother is a Dolphins fan, but they are probably going to win the next 10 Super Bowls with Pat White at QB. They went from 1-15 to 11-5 without him. I see several 16-0 seasons in the works.

No it isn't. Have you watched the guy play hockey before?

So are we talking about "before" or the issue at hand?

The guy can, and does hit. Which is great. The last thing the NHL needed was another wimpy, delicate European superstar. With as many hits as he throws and goals that he scores there will always be the odd bad goal and bad hit.
The hit in question was a result of last second circumstance. Anyone who actually plays hockey and has watched hockey for a significant amount of time can see that. Calling him cheap or an SOB because of it is laughable.

Anyone who actually plays hockey

That is what I was thinking. I've been playing since I was 7 and I am now 40. I have also been coaching my kids for the past 4 years. I am not saying Ovechkin hasn't made dirty hits but I didn't really see an intentional leg kick or anything that would make me think he tried to hurt Gonchar.

teammates for Russias team and friends.

Anyone here play hockey? seeing above, some people do and they are right, its a reaction to stick out a leg to try and kick the puck, or get some part of your body in front of the player your trying to hit. I doubt, highly doubt AO would hit his teammate and friend knee on knee...also...if he did why would he put his knee at risk too?

The debate who is better?

go look at the stats at NHL.com

They are within 10 points of eachother in almost every category except goals.

AO has more shots and goals why? because he shoots the puck ALL THE TIME, FROM ANYWHERE. Thats how you score.

Also...The argument above about Crosby's defense compared to AO's lack of...

Check the +/-

They both arent that great the 08/09 season Crosby was +3 and AO +8

Wouldnt it be interesting if AO had Malkin to play with? that would be something, or Kovalchuk? thatd be something to see.

Oh and Im a Sabres/Flames fan

Id take Iginla over both of em

AOverrated

Yes you score by shooting the puck...but there are also 4 other guys out on the ice with you that are also capable of scoring goals. Playing as a cohesive team/line > feeding one guy slap shots all night long.

began at age 6 in suburban Hockeytown (Detroit) and played at pretty high levels.

Gonchar is done for this playoff year....
