I've been a Pantera/Dimebag fan since I was a kid and always had a thing for the Washburn Dimebolt. I found a used one at a guitar store in 2002 or 3 but didn't buy it because there was a crack in the neck joint. I always kicked myself in the ass for letting it get away.

A week or so ago this one popped up and I snagged it. It has a couple nicks but other than that it cleaned up well. It has a new Floyd, stock neck pickup and a Super Distortion in the bridge. I haven't had much play time on it yet to make a decision but the pickups will most likely get replaced. Thinking about the Dimebag signature set but I see alot of hate directed toward the Dimebucker. (any input appreciated there)

I've been playing on either a fixed bridge or blocked Floyd for years so it took me a few minutes to realize my fat right hand was the reason it was going out of tune when palm muting.

I figured I'd drag the old GTX 33 out for a lightning themed picture. I bought this used in the early 90's and played it through high school.

Cool guitar and damn same thing happened to me when I was younger. Low and behold, I grabbed a Southern Cross last year, well my dad actually got it for me.

He goes down to Florida for the winter every year and he's a gear addict like me and he knows my tastes in gear and music, sooooooo, i get a call from him and he's going berserk on the phone, almost whispering, saying he's in the bathroom of a guitar store and the owner has a Washburn Southern Cross in his personal collection and he might wanna sell it but not too sure, but get this: HE says to me the guy said it was signed by Dimebag !!!'!!!!!So I was also going berserk as I was looking for one for so long, but signed by Dime, I was almost choking on my own saliva by then. I got him to send me pictures by text to confirm. As it turned out, I saw it was not Dime's sig, I did not know who's it was. I spoke with the guy on the phone and told him that was not Dime who had signed it, I have a Dean signed by him and knew his sig from that. Anyway, I convinced the guy and my dad grabbed it. At a damn steal to boot.

I had to wait 5 months till my dad came back though, that was loooooong. Lol. But.....

She plays great, damn neck is so smooth and the feel is awesome. I love it. I'd love to get Dime Slime one day.

Glad you got one man, they don't pop up that often.

I have the Dimebucker in mine and it's sounds great. Might drop in an Anderson soon just for fun. All my guitars have some kind of Anderson in them. I'm addicted to those pups.

Congrats on the find and cool story. If Dimebag had signed it you probably wouldn't want to play it anyway and this way it'll get some use.

Yeah maybe your right, but would of hade it clear coated like i did my other one. Then i could play the hell out of it. My other guitar that's signed by Dime is Dean baby V, too bad i did not have my cherry burst ML at that time  that would of been the ultimate prize!!!!!!

Is yours a USA or an import? Mine is the boogie street version, but damn the quality is through the roof, they had an US luthier there through the whole build run so the QC is tops.

I like the flame through the lightning effect, quite nice.

Chris

It's an import too. Those tops were called "photo-flamed" because it's not a flame top.

The import run crosses are amazing guitars.

Seriously!!!!! Damn, i thoughtbit was a killer flame top

They sure look nice.

Yeah, the cross is pretty impressive, I'm sure glad i ran across it like that. I need to do a group shot of my Deans and along with the cross.

Now i need a USA Dimeslime!!!!!!!!

When I first started playing, I would drool over that guitar in the MF catalogs. Congrats!

Mine's an import but damn nice in my opinion. I'd love to have a US version but can't justify the cost until either the kids or the mortgage are paid off.

Me too! I just happened to be pissed off at another guitar deal gone south, had some stuff to sell and was impulsive enough to buy this one when it popped up, ending my wanting one for the last 20 years.

Bad ass guitar, the washburns almost never come up for sale! Congrats! I've wanted a Dean From Hell for as long as I can remember, still working on it! For the time being I have a DCR #7 Stealth, and a 79' ML.

The stealth has the dimebucker bridge and dimetime neck pickups. The dimebucker is a bad ass pickup, super crunchy, thumpy bottom, definitely recommended. The 79' has the factory Dean pickups, not as good as the Duncan's of course, but still pretty good. Still want to try out the Bill Lawrence pickup some day, maybe when I get a DFH I'll get lucky and it will have em.

You had to go and bust out the GTX didn't you, you're not alone! I too bought mine many years ago, sold it, then it circled back to me, like it was meant to be. This time I won't sell it. It's a damn good playing guitar that looks cool as well.

Sweet guitars! Love me some Dime guitars. Here are mine.

The rust and flame were Funky Munky edition slimes that came out terrible so they got repainted. I'm still working on new pickups, pots, and wiring on the flame.

You guys are killing me here with these pictures, I've been really missing my old Dime Slime...there's a used one up on the Music Zoo site calling my name and this thread isn't helping.

OP, congrats on finding this one!!

Anyone got to compare the washburn vs Dean? The korean deans are awesome, id imagine the washburns are too, but ive never seen one in person

Congrats to the OP!

And fuck all you other bastards and your bottomless checkbooks!

I've played many original Dean MLs, a few USA Washburn Dimes, and a new DFH Dean, my family was a bit obsessed haha. My 2 cents are as follows:

Original Deans were made of sexy butter. Every edge felt well finished, some of the best feeling guitars I've ever touched.

The USA Washburns, imho, were great machines, but much more rigid and sharp feeling physically. Not my cup of tea between the ML-esque options.

The USA reissue Deans felt similar to the originals, but I didn't enjoy them as much. Could just be a mental thing knowing it wasn't the original company owners.

I wouldn't throw any of them out of bed for eating crackers.

I've played them all. Which ones are you comparing? Import washburns used to be way better than import Deans. Not so the last couple years. Dean have stepped up their game. My 2 import Washy's are limited runs made much better than earlier ones with better wood and a big neck volute. The USA slime is one of the last ones made, none of the neck joint cracks like all the earlier ones. But the cheap Chinese DFH actually feels better than any of them. It has the perfect V neck. China copied the original DFH neck exactly when Dean had them made. I just wish the wood was better quality. It doesn't sound as good as the others.

I didnt even consider the chinese ones because every chibese guitar Ive played totally sucked and needed hours of work to get it to play reasonably well. I was thinking Washburn Dimebolt vs. Dean DFH both Korean made. I cant justify the cost of a USA unless I got an unheard of deal.

Also GregM, can you weigh the Washburn, to get an idea on weight differences?

I got 7.2lbs for the Stelth, and 8.0lbs for the 79' I Knew the 79' felt a bit heavier.

I decided to go ahead and order the Dimebag signature pickup set today, I'm sure I'll like them. Can't wait to get them in.

UberKrankenschtein - I have another GTX coming my way. I had totally forgotten about it but my brother had one and offered it to me last night. This one will be a project as it has been refinished a couple times.

I'll weigh the Washburn later tonight.

Sounds awesome, check out my refinishing threads, Ive used Nitro and Tung oil with really good results. Tung oil is of course much easier and less $
