noise gates that don't suck tone?

Hey guys i am currently running my smallbox dimed through my torpedo live near my computer and i am noticing a bit of noise. The only dirt/boost i use is the koko boost out front. I have owned a decimator g string II in the past and i routed my front end and effects loop with it but i noticed a difference when i just plugged straight into my normal pedal board. Have you guys had any better luck with other pedals or is this just part of the deal with noise gates? I have owned a ns2 and that was even worse of a tone suck.

I use the decimator II in front of my amp, i don't like any noise gate in the loop. I feel like it choke my amp.

Are you using the g string? i didn't have that issue.

I had the G string II and the Pro Rack G. Maybe it's because i had some shitty loops in all my amps but it's always the same story if i put a gate in my amp loop, it loose some power (guts). I use a Maxon OD808 as a boost and a Decimator II in front of my amp, like that it's all good.

There is no perfect noise gate, ISP make the most transparent products IMO.

well last time i owned one i used it with a 5150 III now i have a friedman so i may have better luck.

I don't know, my buddy has a EVH 5150 III and a regular Decimator in his loop and he seems pretty happy with the results. Because of that, i thought the EVH had a pretty good loop overall.

Has anyone compared the Decimator II vs. the MXR Noise Clamp? (or any other side by sides)

Agree 100%. Loops tend to suck some tone, even the best loops. I always run my Decimator in front, same tone as straight in. I run mine first after the guitar.

I had them all, i kept the decimator II. For me it's the best even against the T.C. Electronics Sentry and the MXR noise clamp.

something to check - is this while your guitar volume is up? If it is it might be your pickups catching some noise from your monitor. You might try turning off your monitor and see if that helps.

What kind of "bit of noise" and what does by your computer mean?

I am not sure if it just my proximity to the torpedo live, the amp itself, my computer, or my pedal board but depending on how i am situated in the room i get a bit of hum. The closer i get to my amp the worse it is. I know you crank your amps and use a torpedo live. Do you use a noise suppressor?

My beef with them has never been tone. It's the way they prematurely cut off your notes. Could never get the note decay to feel natural. At the point that the cut off felt better, the gate was hardly filtering any noise. I prefer to just roll the volume knob down. If the amp itself is that noisy, dump it.

Decimator is the best one I've come across and I've tried the MXR Racks and many pedals...The ISP is the most transparent as others have said and the rack units work great in any loop as you can set to instrument or line level...

Hands down ISP. Nothing touches their stuff. I use both the rack and the pedal units and have for years. Silence and not choking of notes. Nothing else touches ISP.

I used to always have a noise gate (Decimator) on my board. Then, I took it off, and realized I didn't really need it. Unless you are running super high gain with single coils, I think the are unnecessary.

-I've also had them all,... the unit's that have an independent loop are the best standalone devices,.. never cared for the "4 cable" set up,... in the end "lots of pedals"=" lot's of noise"..... The best option is to get your core tone from your amp,.. Not your pedals...

-now I have an anolog delay, BOSS SUPER CHORUS-(rack mount)-stereo EQ-(rack mount)-

Same here. Tried them all and after all said and done a $90 used ISP Decimator II out from of the amp works the best for me as well. No tone suck (atleast to my ears) and the most transparent.

Yea everything will affect (you can say suck) your tone but for working well in a guitarist application, the ISP Dec II falls into the "no tone suck" category if ya ask me.
