Noise issues with a 1 Spot? Anyone?

I recently decided to make a new smaller board for 1 of my bands so I can keep my bigger board for another band I'm in.

I use a VHT valvulator on my bigger board, and bought a 1 Spot to power my smaller board.

With the 1 Spot, I am getting a ton of noise through it from my Digitech JamMan looper pedal...It sounds like computer noise and a high pitched humming. The JamMan uses SD Cards and all that, and as it's booting up, you can hear the computer noises (sounds like faint fax machine noises). When it's done booting up, those computer type noises go away and a constant whirring/hum is there.

When I used the Valvulator for my board (for the past 7 years), no noise issues ever.

Anyone experience noise issues with a 1 Spot, and did you do anything to fix it?

The valvulator is kinda too big to use on my small board, so while it's the easy thing to do, it's not real convenient.

Doesn't the Jam Man require 18v, not 9v? (Or something like that?)

Depending on your pedals, yes, they can get noisy with the One-Spot. It doesn't work on my small board...the vibe pedal doesn't seem to like it.

it's a power issue, some digital pedals that pull a lot of power don't like to be chained up with other pedals in a common ground/daisy chain setup

i've had the same issue with say delay pedals where i'll hear a digital/computer like wooshing in time with the tap tempo switch

in each case i just used a separate power supply for the offending pedal (be it delay or in your case the jam man) and it solved the noise problem

try using a different power supply for the jamMan and it should be fine thereafter

otherwise you can also invest in a different power supply for your smaller board, one with isolated outputs and enough juice to power everything (there's quite a few out there, be it the BBE supacharger, Voodoolabs PP2, T-rex, Carl martin etc. etc.. )

I posted this on HCAF as well, and others have reported the same thing. Obviously the 1 spot isnt transformer isolated, which is what I need, and the valvulator I was using previously was...

I guess I was just hoping for an easy fix to not have to spend more money on a better unit for my needs.

It never works out the way, though, lol.

yeah...I've never had issues and never researched pedal power because the valvulator has always been so good for me. It's only now that I want a small board and small power that I find all this out, lol. I'm an idiot and bought the 1 spot on impulse based on price. Had I been thinking, I wouldn't have bought.

Even after I got it home, I did think to myself "I wonder if this will be noisy since it isn't isolated". When I tried it out the first time, I didn't have the Jamman connected, so I thought it was all OK.

to be fair the one spot isn't bad it does it's job well imo, you would probably run into similar issues at some stage with for example a t-rex fuel tank classic or another common ground power supply

I've also got a one spot at home, for a smaller board, works great with the 5-6 pedals i have (compressor/tuner and some drive pedals + boss rc-2)

another wallwart is probably the cheapest solution at this point, otherwise save your pennies for a good isolated power supply

By the way, you should look at the Behringer HD400. I think I paid $26 for mine. I don't use it in my rig but I did put it between my interface and monitors on my iMac. It works great. Two 1/4" ins and outs to use as you need. Might be what you need if you don't want to spend alot on a new power supply.

Check out the BBE supra charger, pretty good value for an isolated supply.

I use a Godlyke power alls, but I do have to run some pedals on separate power supplies, but all the pedals I need to do that with, came with their own power supply, so its not a bid deal. I plan to get a Decibel 11 hot stone deluxe at some point.

I think the 1-spot is fine with regular 9v pedals like Boss but when you start adding pedals I think you'd be better off with Voodoo Labs pedal power.

my jamman stereo uses an ac adapter and not dc. It works with a dc one but is noisy as hell.

Ive had no problem with mine powering a few pedals on my small pedalboard.. my 1st 1spot crapped out after about 3 years, the music store gave me another one and it's been fine since (going on over 4 years knock on wood)

I get a lot of noise with mine (more or less depending on which pedals I'm using). The best thing is to use something with isolated taps. Always the best method.

The 1-Spot is a "Switching" power supply, that's how it can take any input voltage and convert it to 9 volts. It is inherently noisy though, so a sensitive pedal will not like it at all. You want a "Linear" power supply with isolated outputs. I tried a 1-Spot because of it's high rating to power my board, but it hummed and buzzed like hell. I switched to the VooDoo Labs PP2 and never looked back, it powers my complete board quietly, minus my Demeter Reverbulator which runs on 24 volts.

Should have saved your money and threw down for a Voodoo power supply. You get no isolation in the One-Spot as it is a single split power point. It pales in comparison.
