and are much more reliable once you’ve “learned” how to dial in the amp with different pre-amp tubes

How do you 'dial in the amp' to make preamp tubes more reliable, exactly?

I am not trying to start an argument, but I paid either $29 or $39 from TubeGetter on Plexi Palace in the last year (the same as in your picture). Maybe I got a discount since I bought 20 or so... $50 is way overpriced for used tubes.

More reliable??? You are the only one on the internet who thinks that… :loco:

Dan, KCA NOS tubes is a rip off artist. His prices are insane...like he is...

Never had a problem with KCA or heard many bad things, but I just checked his prices on NOS 12AX7's. Either NOS 12AX7's have gone through the roof or he has jacked up his prices.

I like NOS tubes, but for a 12AX7 anyway, my limit is under about $30-40 per tube. After that I just settle for current production tubes. You used to be able to get NOS JAN phillips 12AX7's for $17 all day long and this is from KCA....

Ill give you $50 for a pair of NOS RFT's. That should be a good deal since they are not worth the hype :D

You got a deal at $70 = 2 ECC83 RFTs, since them be bowf NOS RFT. You pay shipping and handling and they're yours.

PM me so as to not wake up the peanut gallery…

I find them in my Diezel too smooth & Herbie is already smooth as silk and most brutal. These would be good to tame Marshalls, Mesa-Boogies, and similar amps.

I meant reliable to the tone that you are looking for in your head, on your shoulders, and with your cab. It takes time and lots of tweaking before you quit fidgeting around on one particular amp with several different pre & power amp tubes.

However, I've spent a good deal of $$$ on some of the best rated NOS tubes that took a crap.

Ok, reliable tone-wise might make more sense. But reliability in terms of failure is another issue altogether. I bought two NOS mullards several years ago and those two tubes have followed me through at least a dozen amps...
