Pink Floyd was doing this shit 30+ years ago. Difference was they had talent. :2thumbsup:

Sigur Ros sound very little like Pink Floyd, save the fact that both bands are atmospheric. Completely different tone and sound!

Fantastic band... I was fortunate enough to see them live in NYC quite a few years ago, and they put on a great show.

Another amazing tune from them:

Can anyone tell me what the 2 or 3 best CDs these cats have released are?

Thanks,
Mo

Another big Sigur Ros fan, here. Been a fan for years. You can love metal *and* love bands like Sigur Ros ;)

Mo, while each person may give you a different answer, I'd check out Hvarf - Heim and Agaetis Byrjun for a good sampling of Sigur Ros' music.

I had trigger finger... I ended up ordering the following CDs through Amazon:

I think this oughta get me started. I did some reading on Wiki as to the different releases... Figured I'd go with the ones that seemingly were recevied well. I like this kind of 'innovative' music, much as I like bands like Massive Attack, ISIS, and a lot of the raved out trance that was more popular about 10+ years ago. What I dug with the above OP included video, was the textures of sounds...controlled, thick, expressive. This is 'new music' to me, everything else that's out there is a copy of a copy of a copy (thank you, Narrator of Fight Club, ahem).

I'll always go with originality. And as for Icelandic music, hell, I was and still am a fan of Bjork.

Should be good. Not sure when I'll be able to listen to all of it in its entirety, now that I'm addicted to my Hagen, but that's what driving's for :D

Peace,
Mojo

If you get bored, forward to 8:30 onwards

That was probably the worst part IMO. Guitarist just plays the same chord for 5 minutes straight while some guy in the background goes "Aaaaaaggggghhhhhhh Aaaaaaaahhhwwwwww". I've noticed there are a lot of bands like this popping up lately, hopefully it's just some kind of fad :scared:

That's a very narrow way of looking at it. Clearly they're not about technical accomplishment, so the "same chord for 5 minutes" point is a bit misguided, just as me saying "Pantera is just the same 'chug-chug/groove' riffs for 5 minutes" would be misguided.

It's obviously about the atmosphere created, and the build up. I challenge you to find me a band that sounds like Sigur Ros - there are lots of post-rock bands, but none that sound quite like them. As to the "fad" comment generally, however, I agree: lots of post-rock bands are derivative and boring. Sigur Ros have been around since the 90s, though, and are unique.

exactly right on.

Sigur Ros are an incredible group! One of my favs.

I dig it...seen it before on U-tube..dont know much about them, but I do like it.

Well, The difference is what I said was a fact. What you said was more to make some kind of point, that doesn't ring true for me. As for the challenge of finding another band like this, I honestly hope I don't have to hear one again, but if I do I'll give you a shout

I love trippy atmospheric stuff like this and have since the 70's. Admittedly, Im a little specific in my preferences but I dug this. In my head, I hear soaring delay drenched guitar solos and its very inspiring as I love to wail over things like this

VERY cool stuff... I'm liking it, a LOT

Mate, I literally demand you purchase the TWO-DISC DVD.

The first DVD is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. It was filmed in 2006, just after they'd finished a sold-out world tour, of big venues. They then toured Iceland, and literally played in remote highlands, long-abandoned villages, near volcanoes, and in front of these tiny little crowds, some of whom were visibly moved and in tears at the music...mainly because they live in remote, lonely Iceland and it only took something like that to utterly, completely enrich their lives. All the concerts were free.

Honestly, at times it is almost life-changing viewing!
