His best sounding album IMHO was Crystal Planet, had Marshalls all over it. At least, on that album he sounded less like he was playing through a Rockman.

i agree, great tones on that album. I did like his live tone he got from the Flying in a Blue Dream tour...two vintage Marshall half stacks, a BOSS DS-1 and Chandler echo. ...good tones. Glad to see he's gone back to his root sounds.

Funny, i listen back to Surfing and i can't fathom how i ever liked the tones on that album. It sounds horrible to me now. Sounds like a Metal Zone goosed out Rockman.
Yup, Crystal Planet is still my favorite JS CD.

Edit: Does that mean Satch will only use the clean channel of the JVM?

Hmmm...what about that 50 watt version of the JSX that was supposed to be released?

Does it not make sence since Joe has a pedal made by Vox, and there is a connection between vox, korg and marshall?

why wouldn't peavey have made that pedal for him? anyhow just a thought.

I don't know about the vox/korg/marshall connection but I do know about the Vox Satchurator...IT SUCKS! I've got about 6 or 7 different OD/Boost pedals and the Satchurator is at the very BOTTOM of the list. :gethim:

My guess is that Joe Satriani the solo artist is under contractual obligation w/ Peavey, Joe Satriani the guitarist in Chickenfoot is not.

This whole thread makes me reevaluate that the tone is in the fingers, maybe I still have hope.

So, you can have your cake and eat it too (if your Satch.)

Does anybody really play a Marshall - or just a modded amp that use to be a Marshall?

I'll stick my stock Marshalls and drive them with a good OD over any modded wannabe....athough i did like the fortin and hippie Friedman mod Marshall sounds cause they sounded true to the classic voicing.

Methinks the Peavey camp assumed Joe would just ride the JSX train with that "solo" endorsement. However, it seems that isn't the case with the "band" which makes me wonder: How long does Joe stay with Peavey...solo and otherwise? Also, will there be a new Marshall Sig head at winter NAMM this year?

+1 on all accounts. Never understood why someone would buy a Marshall and try and change it's character, and then on top of it tell me I should be playing a Marshall. Buy something else if you don't like what it does. Maybe they are just easier and cheaper to mod.

Back in the day (even for me) there weren't many options for gain like there are today ( that I knew of anyway). For higher gain it was either a Dist + / DS-1 pedal, Mark series Boogie or do some modding. I never found any pedals that sounded good except OD pedals. That wasn't enough on a stock 4 input Marshall, but they were cheap back then and easy to mod.... :)

I think the thing that's cool about Marshall is you can mod it a bit and still have it's Marshall character. I've modded mine, but I'm usually just tamin the top end a bit.

I really love the chops on that WHOLE ALBUM!!
I still rock to it these days!

Its all down to the mighty $$$. He'd play and endorse Crate if he was paid enough.

I had a Kasha Rockmod first....then an MP-1....then slaved Marshall rig....then a 5150...etc etc...and I just picked up another 5150 and put my slave rig back together....that must mean another MP-1?

The JVM really is a great amp though. Im really curious to see how his tones come out even though im not a huge fan even though he did have some good stuff on crystal planet and of course i love rockin out to summer song.
I was playin my buddies JVM last night and it just plays itself...
