So I recently dipped my toe into the world of fuzz (I hope I don't get booted off this forum). I have NEVER been interested in fuzz but lately have been wanting to do some REALLY heavy stuff ala Disfear, Entombed, etc.

Some other threads on another forum I frequent had a lot of people posting clips of the Earthquaker Devices fuzz pedals and I really liked a lot of what I heard. I then started scouring the internet for other neat fuzz pedals and found the stuff from Black Arts Technologies. I heard some VERY inspiring clips and settled on the Coven pedal. It houses both the BAT Black Forest and Pharaoh fuzz pedals.

Here are some vids I made running Gear 2 on the Splawn Quickrod. There is already a mid gain tone dialed in and I am hitting it with a fair amount of fuzz. The result, IMHO gets me 99% where I wanted to be for that Entombed sound. I know they use HM2 pedals but this thing sounds dirty, mean and evil.

Check it out.

Here's the pedal. Mine is a limited color/graphic

I am using just the Quickrod and my Gibson V, tuned to C Standard. Duncan Custom in the bridge.

Sounds big fat and nasty!

Sounds like a boosted recto a bit.

Good chug.

How does this one differ to the Black Forest? Sounds cool. :D

It doesn't actually. It is the Black Forest (big knob and top row) and the Pharoah (dip switches and bottom row) all in one.

You can run one pedal at a time or stack them. Cool thing too is that you can select which pedal boosts the other so if could be Pharaoh boosting the Black Forest, or flip the switch and it's Black Forest boosting the Pharaoh.

I am using the Black Forest half on these clips.

I will say, when I got it from Prymaxe, the Pharaoh part had a bad connection. They were willing to exchange happily but this was the last in this color scheme and graphic. I'd have had to get the stock graphic. Reached out to Black Arts and they covered shipping and fixed it ASAP.

Great customer service from both Prymaxe and Black Arts.

Love it!
Never played a QR....had a Nitro (one of the first ones #17)
and didnt care for it.
But the QR sounds like a different beast.
Got a buddy here that plays metal as well and SWEARS by it.

On my bucket list. ;)

Your Splawn sounds nice. With your fuzz it sounds HEAVY! Speaking of fuzz, I was selling my fuzz pedal yesterday to help fund another purchase and decided to do a very quick little clip with it. Plugged my guitar straight into the fuzz and then went into the effects return of my amp. One guitar track, bass and a simple drum loop. Kinda fun to play with the fuzz. :D

Haha, that was cool Jer, never heard a quickrod sound like that! Wicked aggressive, nice playing too. You need a nitro sitting along side that beast. :)

That's.... a really clever idea. Would you mind sharing your settings please? I've got a Black Forest and a Laney VH100R so I'd love to try something similar.

That's the baddest I've ever heard a Splawn sound, Jer....You could throw doom all damn day with that pedal and never get bored.

Thanks everyone! Glad y'all dig it. Man I never initially thought the Splawn would be a good platform for this kind of stuff but once again it delivers. The Black Arts stuff is really cool. I haven't messed with the Pharaoh part of the pedal much but looking forward to it.
