Nothing like a good Portnoy Meltdown

I like the projects he plays in but the guy has issues. How the heck did he mid life crises his arse out of his own band?

Maybe he should get together with Geoff Tate and a few other castouts. :D

Wow, what a douche. Instead of throwing a tantrum like a 4 year old, why not try and help the techs out instead of throwing more shit on the ground and standing there ranting about it. I guess he couldn't help because his arms were broken from all the back patting he gives himself?

For MP to get pissed at anything it must've been pretty serious...For he is the friendliest, coolest, even keeled dude there is....

Still and always the true professional MP...

Holy crap, what a class act! The video does look like he's royally pissed/frustrated/tired (who wouldn't be!?) but keeps it damn professional. I dont' think I'd be able to do the same thing.

Goosebumps right now. To see MP himself reply! Thank you Mike for that! And thank you for giving the Philippines a chance!

LOL! lot's of dick sucking over there...

Granted a few posters bravely called the douche, a douche....

No shit......how could anyone equate "true professional" and "class act" with MP after seeing that video?? Major league dick sucking over there, alright! As you said, at least a couple of them called him out for what he did. The rest just continued to suck at his kneecaps....pathetic!

So................I'm stoned right now and don't know who this dude is. But, I just watched the tape and read the article.

First, Any Drummer that can play one handed, while juggling drums sticks should be able to handle the snare mic situation. Besides, the bottom of his snare was probably mic'd anyways. With a little more overheads to pick up the batter side of the snare the FOH sound would be fine till the end of the song.

Second, no amount of frustration can excuse a bully. It looks to me the two young kids where helping his father with the pony tail. I just don't find his rant justified. To me, he just seems disconnected from the real world. Typical cry baby rock star.

Third, Frank Zappa would have guitar whipped Him and told him to shut the fuck up and play your drums. Your fucking lucky to be here asshole.

Forth, Jimi Hendrix would have set the drum set on fire.

Fifth, Jim Morrison would have set the drummer on fire and dance around him singing indian chants.

All excellent choices!

I'm not a Portnoy fan but we all have bad days, the difference is that when someone in his position has a bad day it's caught on someone's iphone and broadcasted all over the world! Granted, he should have handled the situation a bit more professional and I'm sure it embarassed the hell out of the other guys on stage.

" everyone has a Bad Day" ?
How about we just excuse it because "that's just Mike Portnoy being Mike Portnoy"

Wait. This guy has his own FORUM named after him?

Alright - all Portnoy matters aside, is it just me or is McAlpine playing through one of them Yamaha modeling amps with the Marshalls just there for show? Interesting...

Yngwie Malmsteen would have put down the donut and beat his ass...serious! I seen him throw his strat at a drummer once..it was classic. Then Yngwie chanced him around the stage in Cincinnati. I wish Youtube and video phones were around then..true comedy

Just finish the song. I watched and I could hear the snare just fine.

In all seriousness, you're a drummer. You're not that important. Really.

Ha ha ha!!! That is hilarious! Yngwie is my hero. Makes me wish I'd named my first born after him. :D

Yngwie was so drunk.. It wasn't actually not the drummers fault. It was great comedy however. There was like a 15 min intermission after Yngwie chased him around the stage and behind the line. That ended with the drummer taking off back stage, and Yngwie in pursuit. Yngwie took out all his stands and cymbals. That may have prevented him from serious injury. The drummer was bitching about Yngwie after the show to a few us..Saying "he was a jazz drummer, and didn't need that shit". I don't remember his name. He had blond hair I remember. Early to mid 90's at Bogarts in Cincinnati was the show. It was Yngwie's poorest playing moment I seen. I've seen him many of times over the years. I first seen him open for AC/DC on the "Fly on the Wall" tour in Dayton, Ohio. I was 14

Looked to me like he knocked the mic off with his stick. Not that hard to pick back up and put back on I would think.

The fact that he has to position his drums so everyone can see him speaks volumes to me right there.

Not sure what the big deal was, Mike.

Drums were plenty loud and the club holds like 30 people.

LOL! Sounds like quite a memory. Yngwie has been my idol since I first put on the original Rising Force album in '85. I've never seen him live though. I missed a gig of his in Minneapolis by one day once. But I live in MT, so there's little chance of me seeing him live without traveling to do so.

Based on what I know of him though, he's grown a LOT since his earlier years. He's still a nut and still lives a bit of a "rock star" existence. But I just can't help but love the guy. Always have. He's always gotten a pass from me for his bad manners. Can't say that's fair, as I'm sure I'd despise any other celeb that acted as he has. But he was just such a HUGE influence on me and rocked my world like no other. So I tend to look the other way when he's being himself.
