I was just watching this video. Do a search of his eruption live in 1996. A sober Edward, he was on his game.
Mark

Hell yeah Mark, The VHIII tour was the last time that I saw Eddie ON FIRE. The album sucked but that tour was awesome, Gary did all of the old tunes justice and Eddie played and sounded great... I miss that eddie..

Kage
'96 would'a been the Balance tour, which is the tour video that Mark posted...

Steve
Im aware of that Bro, I was just stating that the last time that I saw Eddie really bringing it was the VHIII tour and that was in 98. When commenting on the Vid that Mark posted, I didnt infer that it was 96 or the VHIII Tour.. I did enjoy the Balance tour though
Well.... excuseeeeeeeee me!!! :D ;)

Great stuff!

His comments about the reason he drinks was a cry for help if I ever heard one! He really should have gotten help at that point.[/quote

Man!... when you hear him in this Namm clip, he is soooooo humble and genuinely transparent about being nervous....

When he tells the story of playing his son's tune (316 i think its called) on Valerie's pregnant tummy and when Wolfgang was born...how he liked it...you can see him tear up at the end...wow! That's the Ed I love.

I've never seen that video, big thanks for posting that

Well said!

This video gets a fist pump from me everytime. To the original poster killer YTF

This. This recording from the Fair Warning tour was killer. I always get pumped up every time I see that Unchained clip. That huge drop D riff with Roth jumping off the riser. Killer!! Even Roth sounds great. The band is just on at that time.

Most players lost it at some stage. Page, Clapton, EVH, ...

Only player who remained freaking HOT HOT HOT until the end of his (too short) life was IMO Gary Moore.

But those early EVH examples do freakin rip!!!!

Disagree.

Jeff Beck is better than he's ever been.

I concur. Beck is still on fire after all these years. (Trower too).

Frank Marino and Neal Schon as well. Michael Schenker has his mojo back, Dave Meniketti never lost it...

That's funny, the guy that comes out and plays guitar in the first video is Damir from Bogner amps. And in the House of Blues video, I think the guy that lights Eddie's cigarette is Dave Friedman!

Damn straight, not being a MEGA Edward fanboi, I still respect his steez, and this video definitely added an element of 'human' to this superstar. He went up a few notches for me after viewing this video - regardless of how old it is

I don't think Ed was at the top of his game in 96, he was a bloated parody of himself. He redeemed himself on the VH3 tour though.
For me the it's the Roth years he was really at the top of his game, before all the booze, coke and weed caught up on him.

What's Eddie demoing the gtr, amp or both?
Probably both. I could be wrong but I think the 5150II came out then  I know in 95 for the Balance tour he used his Musicman except for a couple songs he used a prototype wolfgang

I think this is the full solo rockstah had mentioned. Awesome guitar solo on the first night of the Balance tour in 1995. Check out the sustainer use pre VHIII!
