I watched some of the highlights of his speech. Anyone else take notice of some of the things he said in it? Things like he wants Canada to be self reliant, will create more domestic jobs, grow the economy, be a sovereign nation, wants to be considered equals in any negotiations, and wants fair trade deals. Can someone rationally explain to me how this is any different than what Trump is working towards for the US? Canada's new PM calls for these things and he's a "strong leader." Trump wants the same for the US and he's "Orange Hitler." Make the hypocrisy make sense...

And LOL at this goober still going on about Trump wanting to divide Canada to invade it. Let me know when you see those M1A1 tanks rolling through your back yard. Has he never heard of a troll before? Half of Canada doesn't even want Canada, why would the US want to bother with it? What a f-ing doofus.

Trump is serious about Canada and Greenland. He is alternating between a nice-guy/tough-guy approach. On principle I support these country's right to self determination, but practically speaking it would be in US interest to acquire both because of mineral resources and arctic access. Regardless, the last poll I saw was like only 10% for joining the US. Where are your numbers from?

If you actually think the US/Trump really wants to take over Canada & Greenland and make them part of the US then you're just as retarded as Canada's new PM.

Thought it was pretty funny reading the news yesterday declaring that Canada's new PM is taking over the role of leader of the free world.
Even if it wasn't POTUS, Canada is probably behind at least twenty other countries in influence.

I don't give a fuck about Trump, he's doing his thing in his country, none of my business. What I give a fuck about is the mass immigration policy under Trudeau and what it's done to our job and housing markets.

The butterheads come here specifically to take advantage of Canada, in India they are told that we need them. WRONG.

One of them will take over a Tim Hortons, fire the white staff and replace them with other rags with the agreement that they kick back half their wages to the owner. Some owners even buy houses specifically to house their workers.

Hindus are our Mexicans, but instead of climbing over a fence they were invited in with open arms.

I think the difference is tone and context. Trump is acting wildly aggressive in response to threats the very existence of which are extremely controversial and divisive in the US, and his actions are inflammatory to say the least. You said it yourself, he's trolling. Well, trolling people gets them riled up against you.

Carney is responding to a very real threat that almost all Canadians are in agreement needs to be defended against. Everything you mentioned he said in his speech, those are issues that have to be addressed simply because Trump has made it clear the US will no longer be a reliable trade partner. And unlike Trump, he's not trying to troll anybody. There are actually a fair few similarities between them - neither man had held public office before becoming President/PM, both come from the world of business/finance, both were elected on a platform of restoring their country's economy and national dignity.

Trump has done a tremendous job of unifying Canadians, this is certainly the most unified I can remember the country being in my lifetime. On a cynical note, Trump enabled Trudeau to leave office on a high note after a spectacular crash-and-burn, while the Liberal Party was able to pull off the comeback of a lifetime purely on the basis of being firmly against Trump, with the NDP actually falling back thanks to voters' concerns over splitting the vote and letting the Conservatives in. Basically, being anti-Trump is shooting fish in the barrel of Canadian politics.

The Obama presidency softened the anti-US sentiment among us a fair bit after Bush, but Trump's trade war has put almost every Canadian I know on the same page: Fuck Americans. Fuck the Republicans for electing Trump, fuck the Democrats for being too pathetic to stop him, fuck every single American, fuck them all. That's not the page I'm on at all, but fuck me is it ever prevalent right now.

About half of the USA, and most of the population of other western nations, have cultivated an entitled mindset. Then when you demand a square deal, they are offended and hurt. Like children who are angry when they have to share a toy after having it all to themselves for the majority of the day. These people never grew into adulthood. It's absolutely pathetic.
