Pics tomorrow. For now, Musician's Gear powered pedal board with:

Korg Pitchblack + tuner
BOSS AW-3
Jet City Afterburner
BOSS FB-2
ISP G - STRING
--Front of amp --

--Loop--
BOSS CH-1
Jet City Flood Analog Delay

May lose the FB-2 -- not sure if I want to use IT or the QR solo boost yet.

Opinions welcome...

how do you like the afterburner? almost pulled the trigger on one.. but decided i wanted something a bit dirtier. i had a few od pedals around and wanted something different. wound up with the shockwave distortion instead. it's still on my pedalboard after three years.. so i like it.

Congrats on the pedal board!

I have Frank Gambale's FB-2 and while it's a cool boost, they didn't really make the Feebback part of it as good as it could have been.

Drives me nuts that you can't use the feedbacker without the boost engaging when you let your foot off. The boost is pretty good; lots of control over the attack and the ability to dial in a mid-hump or just a volume boost.

See, I was looking for just the opposite -- just something to slam the front end of the Jet City Amps that don't have a solo boost. The Afterburner is an awesome pedal--just like the TS-9/SD-1 stacked I've been using forever, but in one neat package. I dare say better tones too. Also just got The Flood Analog Delay -- great/warm analog delay on par with the Carbon Copy at a fraction of the price. Jet City is doing some great stuff IMHO.

Yeah, the Feedback function on that pedal falls into the novelty category, but I've found running it AFTER an OD or something like the BOSS Power Stack really shows off how good the boost feature is.

i've had really good luck running the shockwave into the front end of an old yamaha g 100 210 with a strat. just roll the volume knob back to clean it up.. switch channels to boost. i wound up putting the shockwave on a pedalboard i use in front of my carvin x 60 and use the 20 db lead boost on the amp to push it over the top when i solo. we made a cassette recording of our last rehearsal and played it back yesterday. it sounded pretty good.
i do think jet city makes some good stuff without the over pricing. i've got the 2112 combo whiich i also like. been thinking abut adding the 112s or s+ to add some bottom end per soldano's thoughts on the astroverb and atomic 16's they're based on.

Shouldn't the ISP decimator G-string be connected in the loop as well as the front of the amp?

It's is... And pics are coming... I'm just still messing with the layout...

Its not listed that way in the first post :poke:

Carry on, order looks fine to me.

I know--I spent about an hour yesterday figuring out my f-ups... :bash:

it took me awhile to come up with the current order on my pedalboard. i wound up having to move a couple of pedals around because there were a couple of them that didn't play well together in a certain order.
the od 808 and jet city are first because they're true bypass. the gov'ner 2+ and metal muff are last in the chain because they're buffered. and for some silly reason my ce-5 likes to be in front of my delay.. not after. it was kinda hit and miss for awhile.. but once i figured out the order they needed to be in everything has been fine since.
i'm running everything in front of the amp because the loop is ic driven and turned out to be a tone sucking device.

Is your Maxon OD-808 modded? Stock they are buffered bypass.

my bad. it's stock.. but i like it where it is in the chain. didn't know they were buffered. it works.. so what do i know? i do know that lots of folks want to mod the jet city's.. but i think they take pedals pretty well too. :)
come to think of it a friend of mine.. who's a piano tuner.. said he thought i could use more treble in my tone. i thought it might be the radial big shot i was running it through. it's passive.. so there's some treble loss. maybe i'll switch those two around next practice. thanks.

As long as you like your setup and your tone, then the bypass of your pedals really doesn't matter. You found a signal chain that works for you. I actually find the bypass of my Maxon OD-808 to be pretty nice, I have had the OD-808 for about 15 years, its a workhorse.

As for your ABY pedal causing treble loss, that is surprising, considering the number of buffers you have in the chain.

radial says that a bit of treble loss is normal with the big shot because it's passive. you just need to dial it back in.
i've got a couple of other pre-amp tubes i could substitute as well.. if i want to go that route.

Ok, so nothing is Velcro'd down yet, and no cabling is dressed down, but this is what I think I'm gonna go with:

With the Afterburner with boost and FB-2 on I can slam pretty much any clean channel and get great OD tones. Problem I'm having is in the loop. Seem like the CH-1 and Flood are mis-matched; either buffered/non or +4/-10. Think I'm going to have to try the Ebtech Line Level Shifter there. Also, the BOSS AW-3 isn't where I want it to be yet, but that's probably user error. I need to re-evaluate all the pedals, which have buffers, which don't, which are +4/-10, and get the best sound rolling.

I CAN tell you that for leads, on the AFD CHANNEL with the FB-2 and Flood engaged... BLISS!! I could get lost playing those settings for days... And that's only testing through my Whitebox Engineering 2x12 with WGS ET65S -- wait 'till it hits a full stack... Boo-Ya!!

i was running into some line level issues when trying to setup up a couple pieces of recording gear i've got. when they don't match up properly the results can really suck. i thought it was the piece of gear i was using.. then i slept on it and realized it was operator error. oops. :)
as for what's working? i wouldn't change that part of the order.. just find a way to work around the tones you really like. enjoy.
