So,
I've been trying a bunch of different od's and boost's looking for something that would work well with a high gain amp. My main amp is a Voodoo Amps VRock 100. I've tried an OCD, Tube Screamer's, Digitech Hardwire Overdrive, Suhr Shiba Drive, and countless others. They all seemed to suck the bottom end out of my tone and just did'nt gel with the VRock. I ordered a Suhr Koko Boost and it sounds killer. The Koko Boost is really transparent, it has a boost and a mid boost, which makes it really versitile, and just makes a tube amp sing. The VRock has a great tone all on it's own, but I feel to ease picking dynamics and for solo's a clean boost just takes this amp to a whole new level. The Koko Boost is a fantastic pedal, but i was still looking for an overdrive that I could use just to add a different layer to my sound. I ordered the Doug Aldrich Rocket Fuel from Majik Box. The Majik Box website said ther was a one week wait on orders, but i recieved mine in two day's. The Rocket Fuel has an overdrive side and a boost side that can be used separately, or together. The rocket Fuel sounds really cool. The boost side of the Rocket Fuel is comparable to the Koko Boost, but I would say the K
oko sounds a little better as a clean boost. The Rocket fuel boost side seems to color your tone a little, but not in a bad way at all. Now, the overdrive side of the Rocket fuel is great! It sounds nice and full, retains the bass in your tone, layers really well over a high gain amp. Oh, and if you really want to get crazy use the boost and overdrive together. The Rocket fuel is the best overdrive I've tried IMHO. The Rocket Fuel and the Koko Boost are keepers.
