Have a set of MCP Hot Heads in my new Luxxtone. They are pretty much as you hear in Mark Day's Friedman BE-100 demo. They are completely different than most of the MCPs I tried. They are high output pickups but do not sound like it. Very organic with bass that is not boomy or muddy, nice mids that are not over emphasized and an airy glass like top end in the vein of a PAF. Kind of reminds me of the Rebel Yell with added bass and the upper mids reduced a bit, but more airy sounding and not bright. I am more into Wades Angel Dust/Garuda's and have had the Detroiter, Nasty Nasty, and Afwayu, but these are some nice pickups. I might experiment though with the Angel Dust or Garuda in my Luxxtone down the road, but these are going to stay for a while.

Congrats on the new Luxxtone and MCP's.

I used to think that the most perfect pickup ever was an old school JB with an Alnico 2 magnet (swapped into it). I still like that combo, BUT Wade proved me wrong with the Garuda. When I received my first one, I felt like I had just gotten lucky and it sounded good in that particular guitar. I did not make a big deal out of it, because I felt that I was just in a "honeymoon" phase, and it was new to me. Nope, have a couple now, and they are just perfect for what I want from a pickup.

Wade knows his stuff !!!!!

The Angel Dusts and Garudas sound fantastic in our builds. I'm still not 100% with the Hot Heads, great pickups but I personally am much more down with the AD's and Garuda's for higher output stuff. Your El Machete is the 2nd one we built with requested Hot Heads, and they both sounded similar. A lot of guys are wanting to use them lately with our builds since they are a new model. I think we are going to stick with the other 2 for guys wanting high output, just seems to gel with our builds better. But in no way are the Hot Heads bad, just different than what I think people are looking for in our guitars.

Jerry, I agree with you on this. The AD and Garuda are my fav MCPs and I do prefer these over the HHs. The Hot Heads are great, but I prefer the AD and Garuda's since I have these in other guitars. I wanted to try something different, but can always switch the HHs out for the AD or Garuda's.

Im loving the hotheads in my new Luxxtone so far. They sound great through my original CCV and two Cameron mods.

Awesome!!! They do sound great though; just different then what I am used to from Wades pickups!!! One thing about pickups is you can always change them out!!!      What Cameron Mods do you have?

Nice Luxxtone!!!

I have an Aldrich and a HG/LG Jose both older 100 watt JMP. Im not really interested in changing the HH as of yet. These are the first MC pickups I have tried. Im really into the old 80's Duncan distortion and JB.

Cool, well the Garuda is the best JB ever!!! The Luxxtone smokes through the Atomica!!!

An old ESP Kamikaze.

All maple body, and the Garuda is perfect!

Killer!!! Not too bright? Do you still have your Atomica?

Very cool new axe!

How would you say the Hot Head and the Angel Dust differ? I have an Afwayu in an ash tele and Wade suggested the HH for a Charvel Pro Mod. I have always liked clips of the AD, but Wade knows his stuff...

The HH and AD are way different. The HH are more bassy and darker with a sparkling airy top end on them. The HH also lack the aggressive mids that the AD has and is actually less compressed IMO. The AD has more lower mids, is a thicker, slightly more compressed, and has a brighter top end (thicker top end though). You also have to dig in more with the AD, which I like. Of course each pickup will sound different in each guitar.

Yes, Wade knows his stuff!!!

good read for me, ive been wondering what to put in the new old les paul that i got. i have a bkp holy diver in my other which is a refined jb too me, and sounds killer. sounds like the garuda is the guy im looking for. have any of you tried the garuda vs. the holy diver??

Yes, I have tried the Garuda vs Holy Diver, but not in the same guitar. I really recommend the Garuda over the HD though and it is the best JB like pickup out there. It is much less refined than the HD. I just did not get along with the HD very much. I also prefer Wades pickups over Bare Knuckles. I do recommend the Detroiter for LPs, but the Garuda will work. The Detroiter is mean sounding.

hmm, i like the holy diver, so maybe i would like the garuda even more..? i have a detroiter in an sg right now, and it's tits as well. i always come back to a jb in a les paul tho, and the hd is the first thing that has definitely replaced it. i need to call wade after things slow up after the holidays.

I vote for the Garuda over the HD and the Garuda is the closest thing I have heard to an old JB so far and it is much improved IMO.

I have a Detroiter in a fender CS strat (ash with rosewood fingerboard), and I find it has too much low end. It gets really woofy and farty when picking on the low E string. Would the Angel Dust correct this problem? I wanted a fat, thick mids, humbucker that would work well with the ash body. I think the Detroiter is fat, but it doesn't seem to hold together too good in this guitar.
