I know they get tons of hate but I love the jmp-1.

I got this one for 300$ and I love having it around for when I'm feeling some def-toans.

These are on some of my favorite 90s records.

This comes to mind immediately:

This is one of those pieces of gear that I think was highly misunderstood by the public - they were trying to make it sound like EVH instead of what it was designed to sound like.

You guys know of any gear like that? Has a bad rep, but is actually quite useful?

Edit, accidentally linked my cover band instead of the Therion track

Why would it get hate? It sounded pretty good to me in Blake’s clips of it

For gear that gets a bad rap, but actually good I’d say maybe the metal zones as a boost, Fortin TS’s and maybe vintage US Tung-Sol’s. Also, maybe epiphones since the vintage ones were completely different animals. I got a ‘64 Epiphone Riviera recently and it’s my favorite guitar I have

It got a ton of shit for "not having a pure tube signal path" and a bunch of other stupid shit back in the day.

It's not meant to sound like a superlead lol

I like them through the big boy poweramps. Honestly if I couldn’t get a Bogner fish or CAE 3 channel preamp, the JMP-1 would be my next best choice for what it delivers and the typical going rate of them

I’ve heard they really improve a ton with a recap of quality electrolytics in the signal path. Not done one myself but it makes sense.

Congrats man they’re a staple. I actually love the cleans on these - all over the 80s and 90s.

100%. I mean, my top choice would be a JS sig Larry preamp, but hes no longer making them

These can be bought for a SONG on the used market, and they honestly sound quite good - despite having all sorts of transistor and digital voodoo going on, so they aren't for the tan pants purist.

But with a big, nice poweramp? These things get great, solid heavy tones.

i always kind of wondered why these werent more popular? deftones definitely did good with them, billy gibbons had racks of them, the dude from Staind used them when they were super huge, i think Corgan was using them for a while. on the internet though they are kind of left out

Yep agree. I’ve heard one through one of those behemoth 100/100 stereo Marshall power amps and it fucking delivered the goods man. The key to these is a solid signal path and a good cabinet.

I honestly dont know, theyre a little fiddly to dial in, and require good gear in the signal chain, so I think they got a bit of a bad rap from beginners using them with low end type setups.

I've used this one with a marshall el84 20/20, a mesa sim 2:90, a strategy 400, and my 50 watt fryette powerstation (!) and it sounds great through all of them tbh. It seems to be really a matter of the speakers youre running it through.

I mean what’s not to like here?

Right? as long as youre not running it into the return of a line 6 spyder, they seem to sound quite good? I honestly think a lot of the hate on these is user error. It's never going to compare with my larry, but its a great sounding piece of kit, full stop.

I prefer the JMP-1 over the Mesa Triaxis by a mile, but favor the ADA mp-1 over both. I think the mp-1 sounds meaner with more growl. The ADA MP-2 was a complete piece of crap though.

The triaxis is another one that’s never talked about, like when is the last time that thing was discussed around here?? I remember wanting one so bad in the 90s looking at ads lol

I toured with a triaxis for a long time. You could definitely get decent tones out of it, but it was incredibly fiddly to dial in, and they were a timebomb QC wise

They are very cool and sound fantastic. I just sold one but have another I’m keeping. The strongest tone IMO is OD1 with the gain up high for a saturated modded marshall sound. Bump up the treble and bass, keep mids noon or so…off to the races. I love that sound - it’s just right to my ears and sounds like a Marshall still but with a bunch of gain and plenty of low end (for me).

I think it shows its weakness when you lower the gain, kind of gets a little flat sounding and not so multi dimensional like a traditional amp but it’s subtle and moreso something only the player would probably notice, not the audience. 3 hundo is a downright steal in this market.

I've always thought they sound killer. Back in 91 when I had to have the MP1 I was hedging on the JMP 1. Kinda wish I had gotten one anyway.

Congrats Dan!
