New Warmoth Guitar Day! I bought this body a couple of years ago from Warmoth, with the intention of making an SRV "inpsired" Strat build. Originally it had a maple/Pau Ferro neck (like the SRV Fender Strats), but the darn thing would never stay in tune. Decided to go a different direction, and converted it from the 6-point vintage trem to a Floyd Rose with dual humbuckers and then it went through a few different iterations before I cannibalized the neck, pickups and Floyd for another project. I tried to sell the body here locally, but didn't have any luck so when I saw that @MistaGuitah was selling a really nice Warmoth maple/ebony neck with the SRV back shape, I though it might be time to revisit the SRV "inspired" Strat build. Luckily, I still had all the Strat-ish parts so it was just a matter of building it back out. I'm by no means a "Strat" guy, but this one does check some boxes for me. A bit heavy though, tipping the scales at 9 lbs. dead on the money.

Warmoth one piece solid swamp ash with quilted maple top with a Warmoth quarter sawn maple, dark ebony board and SS frets. Pickguard loaded with Fender 57/62 singles coils, all CTS and/or Switchcraft under the guard. Sperzel locking tuners and a Wilkinson 6-point bridge. I think the reason the first one wouldn't hold tune, was that I had some interference with the original pickguard and the Wilkinson. I had to buy another pickguard, because I had routed the original one out for the Floyd Rose and I made sure that everything cleared this time. So far this one has held tune like a champ. Here is the finished product.

That looks great! The gold hardware against the quartersawn grain, ebony fretboard, and flame tobacco burst body come together real nice.

Beautiful!

I don't think it's Swamp Ash tho. Swamp Ash is light weight because of all the water in the wood when it was alive. Once dried and the heavy water is gone...the wood is light. But that's not a statement regarding tone or anything, it's just not light weight. I've had 2 Swamp Ash guitars and I didn't like the sound of either of them.

It's definitely swamp ash, unless Warmoth was mistaken and looking at the neck pocket, if it's not swamp ash.. it missed a darn good opportunity to be. LOL

Body is heavy as a mofo though, no doubt about it. The neck pocket has "4.14" written in it, I think that must be the weight.

Yes that is the weight. I know they might call it Swamp Ash I'm just saying that Swamp Ash is kind of 'by definition' light weight.

This one is my first Warmoth body from over 20 years ago. Not too different from yours. Quilt Maple on Alder, also their Tobacco Burst finish. It's had a few necks to get where it is now too.
