Finally found something I been trying to hunt down for years.....1967 Fender Bassman 50 watt head.........There are so many different configurations of this amp it took some research to figure out which one I as looking for.........I had tried a shitload of them and the right one showed up.........Main thing besides a clean example of course was the bass channel voicing was usable with a six string.......Many I tried were too muddy, reason is I wanted to be able to jump channels ala Jtm's and be using the whole amp........This amp has got some beautiful overtones.....Starts getting dirty around three on both sides and compresses nicely....Very responsive to pick attack but cleans up sweet with guitar volume.........The power gain is nice but a tad loose untill you get to six on the volume but every od I have tightened it right up, three button Plexitone was (Beast Boston Accent) Wicked Awesome!!!! I am going to gig with it tomorrow so I am looking forward to hearing how it cuts.......My guess is it will cut well, going to run a 1960B with 200w EVM's & cel. GL Anniversaries........Should get me there.......

Thanks Cardinal!!!!! Real happy with it.......Pure and Simple circuit no bs!!!!! I'm putting my Boogies away for a while.....

Yeah, there's just something nice about these old simple amps. These days, I'm loving my 2204 (complex compared to your Bassman, maybe) while the poor SLO has been neglected the last few weeks.

I had an old blackface Bassman in the store several years ago. It kind of sat here a while and I messed with it a few times and got some killer cleans and some crunchy tones with it. One day local guitar hero Kurt James came in here with his old Kramer guitar and asked to plug into it. He cranked it and it sounded phenomenal. he was playing Van Halen and heavy rock shred type stuff and it was incredible sounding. I was having a "holy crap, that amp is going home with ME tonight" moment the whole time he was playing. Unfortunately, another customer in the store was having the same kind of moment listening to Kurt play that thing. He started talking to Kurt and Kurt told him, "yeah, this is a good one". As soon as Kurt said he wasn't going to buy the amp because he already had one, the customer came up to the counter and said, "I'll take the Bassman". I couldn't not sell it to him even though I really wanted to keep that one for myself.

Congrats on yours!

Hey Cardinal there are plenty of players on here that will give some love to your SLO for sure!!!!
Awesome amps........My next purchase will be an unmolested JCM 800 combo........

Thanks Chubtone......Always wanted a simple point to point circuit and it don't get much simpler than these......I have small bottle NOS 6L6 Sylvanias in it now and the break up is quicker than with the JJ's I got with it.....Still room to add tube game so AX7 are going to replace the AT7's in there now....Going to the shop for a full checkup as well......

Great score! I'd like to pick up an old Bassman as well. Congrats, and enjoy!

I use my 67 Bassman a lot. I did switch the circuit to AA864 specs. There's some weird stuff going on in the AB165 circuit. I'm no tech or anything, but I think Leo was experimenting with that particular circuit. The AB165 can get some good tones, but I like the AA864 much better. Seems much more musical and full to me. I also had my tech wire up input 1 on the bass channel so that it's jumped into the normal channel. That way I don't have to mess with an extra cable. I freakin love my Bassman. Congrats on the amp man. They built those things to last back in the day.

Ok, now I'm seriously considering buying an old AB165 Bassman. These circuits, the channels are in-phase so they can be bridged. How much like a Marshall NMW are these things? They're really cheap compared to Marshalls from the same time. I already have a really nice 2204, but for some reason I'm thinking about one of these.
