Any cool stores at Manhattan? Will be traveling to NYC for a vacation for 1+ weeks and thought maybe there are some shops worth checking out...

I'd wait a few months. You wont even need cash.....if you get caught taking something you might end up with a new job in the mayors office😂

I really do hope the city is safe! Better to leave expensive watch at home? Is the metro safe?

People pushing men and women into tracks..... Burning people alive on the sub....

Yeah NYC is pretty much Sesame Street :dunno:

I had a Florida trip originally but changed it to NYC and will go to Florida later.😁

There are a couple just ok shops. Rudy's is worth a visit. They have the best fitting T-Shirts. Their guitars are all pretty high end and very expensive. SoHo is a great area to wander around and do some shopping.

30th Street-Not on 30th street and just ok. Used stuff. Mostly over priced. I randomly met Oz Noy there once.
Then Rivington is a decent but over priced vintage shop. But I think everything is over priced.
There is a Guitar center in Manhattan that you never know what you will find but for the most part will make you lose interest in gear after your visit.

Bar 55 has closed a few years ago. The guitar scene in NYC isn't anywhere near what it once was.

Music Zoo is too far away if you are staying in NYC.

Google says it's about an hour in transit :dunno:

Music Zoo is a store I've always wanted to check out but it's way out on Long Island. It's past JFK and that takes an hour from midtown.
I just never wanted to commit 4 hours round trip for a guitar shop. I mean I have the sickness but not bad enough to piss off my wife on a nice NYC weekend. Id rather day drink in a dive bar or get oysters somewhere.

Lived in NYC for years. Regularly cycled a 15-20 mile circuit every other day, including thru Harlem. Never had any issues. I sometimes wonder about the man babies who read the few articles a year of some bad shit that happens and pee their pants.

30th Street Guitars (confusingly on 27th) is a cool joint, you'll always see something different, good used selection Gibson stuff. Rogue Music on W 30th is cool. Chelsea Guitars on 23rd is also a good spot, same thing you'll find something new every time. Hit Jazz Record Center if you're in that area too to find some cool records. Start in that area of NYC and branch out.

It's not that bad these days, but it was off the hook back in the eighties. 42nd was a giant red light district, and I saw cars get stripped in broad daylight in Brooklyn.
