NYC music shops?

No one is ever randomly slaughtered for no reason or targeted by an opportunist in NYC, I'm sure it would be perfectly safe to take a new $5000 guitar on the subway and discuss it with some of the fine patrons who ride it all day, going nowhere....and evidently immune to laws.

Music Zoo is definitely a cool shop if you can drive to it or take the train/taxi. The Music Zoo has lots of cool amps and guitars. If you're looking to stay local and enjoy sweet vintage gear, I'd highly recommend Retro Fret in Brooklyn and/or TR Crandall in Manhattan. The acoustics in Retro Fret are magic. If you're more of an electric player I'd hit up TR Crandall as their electric selection is better.

Visited Guitar Center Manhattan and they had quite cool guitars in-stock. Loved the fact that people were trying out gear all over the shop although it was a bit chaotic. I was even happier to see the younger generation drooling the gear and trying it out! 😎I tested a killer Gibson LP Junior and an ES-335 and eventually bought a TS9. I don’t think my airliner would have gotten any of those two delivered with headstock intact.

NYC was amazing! Visited the tops of Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center and Freedom Tower and the views were great from those. Among other places I went to were Brooklyn bridge, statue of liberty, Times Sq, Broadway incl. Chicago musical, central park, grand central terminal, chinatown, wall street/downtown, WTC/911 museum and memorial (😢), NY Knicks NBA game (my 1st NBA game live), NY Rangers NHL game (my 1st NHL game live)… If You ever visit NYC please stay at Sofitel New York; the hotel, the staff and its location are as good as it gets! 🤩

Forgot about the Intrepid Museum which was incredible! Seeing the Lockheed A-12, space shuttle, Super TomCat, submarine, aircraft carrier among other things was just incredible. 🤩

Where Hendrix bought his Marshalls.

As long as you don’t get set on fire in the subway, you should be good to go.
I wouldn’t go to New York City if you paid me to visit that fucking shit hole. I lived my whole life on Long Island and I’ve been in New York City many times. The only thing it was good for was going to concerts, and 48th St., which is gone. Avoid at all costs.. Stay in your hotel room. Be safe.

Hi Carl, already back home after the trip. 👍

I live 10 minutes from the zoo
I wouldn't trek out from Manhattan just to go
All their inventory is online and you can always call.
Its a wonderful place but they keep a lot of stock in the warehouse. So while there you may not see what you want.
Its best to call.

If you do go set aside another hour and uber the 4 miles to we buy guitars/ Davidsons in farmingdale

There youll see amazing gear and they have no issues letting you play anything.
Even if its 50x above your annual income

As far a NYC i haven't been there in 10 yrs.
Place is not for me. Last time i was there the 14th st gc had a nice vintage room

NYC is a very safe city, you'll be fine. Check out Rudy's in SoHo for sure.

Indeed. I walked a LOT during the trip and used the metro a lot as well. I was out between 6AM until midnight and with no issues. There were a lot of cops out in the streets which was nice. 😎

I grew up in NJ, went to 48th St. all the time when it was still a thing. Last time in Manhattan was a good six yrs ago. I went to the GC and it was pretty good. Saw a guy playing some obscure Loudness stuff on a BE-100, which was cool. But having gone there lots of times during the Koch, Dinkins and Giuiliani days, it was once very, very rough and tumble, then pretty safe. No interest anymore unless going to look at the luxury watch dealers, I think around 47th St. You will eat well in NYC. Man, Mrs. Lee dug up some Chinese place the size of a phone booth that was as good as anything I've had in China. But, well, not worth a trip just for that.

I left my Daytona home for this trip… Saw couple of nice watch shops near my hotel at 44th between 5th and 6th avs.

Any cool stores at Manhattan? Will be traveling to NYC for a vacation for 1+ weeks and thought maybe there are some shops worth checking out...
Vintage stores like Guitar Row are worth a peek too.
