well, been playing a few hours with the new cab and beginning to realize maybe this is a bit too much for an apartment... The 212 was ok but now with 2 extra speakers playing at the same volume I was playing at is a bit much. I love the Friedman but now I can't help but think maybe I should have gone with the pink taco and matching 112 while we're still in an apartment and got another nice guitar like a Suhr. Keep in mind, I don't play in a band, just an afterwork bedroom rockstah :rock: Fuck will I lose a lot if I decided to trade down...
 
It won't be that much quieter. I would try an attenuator first, always handy to have one of those laying around anyway.
 
Attenuate it and keep the 412. Your not gonna live there forever. The next place you live may be more 412 friendly, and you'll be gassing for the one you already have.
That head needs a good 412 cab, and thats a great one :yes:

It will be a killer rig when you more and play out someday. Even if you just do a few jam sessions, life can't be all work.
 
Won't even be close to the same. Keep the 4x12 and 100 watter. Use that master.
Chased that small watt myth for years.
Conclusion, small amps sound small.
100 watt B.E. sounds way better than the pink taco at low vol IMHO.
By the time you have the taco loud enough to sound good it's well beyond apt. level.
 
I'm also in a apt with a be100 and friedman 4x12 cab, sounds great at low volume! A few months after I got it, I bought a friedman 2x12 cab, because it is easier to load up by myself. Now I usually just play the 2x12 at home also ...maybe later this year I get into a house?, then I'll plug both cabs in,.....keep it :rock:
 
Lot's of great suggestions here. You will not be happy with a low watt amp. You have a great setup there, appreciate it. I am playing through a POD X3 live right now. :aww:
 
Yeah, the BE has one of the best master volumes in the business. No real need for an attenuator IMO.
 
your never gonna get that big alive sound out of a 1x12 the weber mass is an excellent attenuator might be just what you need I told myself many times that I could settle for a 2x12 every time i find myself sad till im playing through 4 speakers nice rig btw classy

No offense but if you can't get a good tone at whisper volumes with that amp and cab, you must have serious hearing loss or there is something wrong with the amp. Friedman makes the best master volume I have ever played, you do not need anything else. I practice at my house at 5am every morning and never had a problem getting a good tone at low levels. Yes it really sounds great cranked up but you should be fine at less than TV/conversation levels.
 
Buy a Kemper, profile the Friedman, sell Friedman, problem solved!
 
Go big or go home- the 4x12 is always the way to go. That amp has the best master in the business. Not to mention, the extra saturation from the loop itself. Mess around with it.
 
Now if the truth of the matter is "Oh Fuck! I think I spent too much money", you gotta do what you gotta do, but if it's purely a performance issue, everyone here is right. Rock the big boy low until you can set it free. You won't regret keeping it. I have a few heads myself in an apartment (for years now), but will be moving at the end of the year to where I can afford a house. I'm sure glad I kept everything.

This. I use a Weber Mass to keep my whole rig (multiple heads) set at one level. It allows you to retain the tone while lowering the volume. I had poor results with a hot plate. Keep in mind, the tone is affected both by the master volume, and even the number of output tubes. For example, if I switch my Mesa from 4 6L6 to 2, doesn't sound the same. Also, my Marshall from 100 to 50 watts, doesn't sound the same, so even the same head with reduced output tubes sounds different. If you like the head, keep it as is and set the master vol to the sweet spot. Also, 4x12 has more output, but also totally different freq response than 1x12, due to surface area and cabinet size.

Thanks for the support dudes! Also,it wasn't a problem of tone at low volumes, Ive got a few videos up on youtube of how great it sounded through my 212. The problem I am coping with is, Did I need the 412 in an apartment lol? Its not going anywhere though, you guys are all right. We are currently saving for a house so in a few years it will be worth it.
 
I do however wish I had got the matching 212 instead like I originally wanted
