I've been a huge fan of my TC Spark Booster of late, but would like something in that realm, but a little more aggressive/grit. I've I could get the warmth and transparency of the TC, & the pissed off character of the Zakk Wylde OD, (without the compression & harshness), I'd be in heaven.

I'm boosting a Jet City Custom 22, (Martin Kidd modded high gainer, as much gain as 5150 III RED CHANNEL!), and will soon have a Friedman Runt 50.

I've tried:
Maxon OD808 - Too compressed..
Green Rhino - Too compressed, and noisy, (hum).
OCD - Too muddy.
Xotic BB - WAY, WAY too compressed.
MXR Custom Badass OD - Didn't spend enough time with it.
Hardwire CM-2 - Too compressed/harsh..
TC Mojo Mojo - Meh..
Timmy - Meh..

Right now, the MXR GT-OD is my go-to. It won over the Maxon OD808, but the search continues.. I still love the TC Spark Boost for some applications, but it could use some aggression.

Try the Cusack Screamer and/or the Suhr Koko Boost. Both have much less of the classic TS 'congested mid hump' which from your descriptions is something you are battling.

I don't mind the mids, it's the compression that gets overwhelming with an already dirty amp. The GT OD has been the most transparent I've found, of the TS9 variety.

I'm looking at maybe an RC V2, and Seymour Duncan 805.

The Duncan 805 has very little if any compression that's one reason I'm selling one that I have

Freaking Sick 30v

You've used it as a boost ?

Actually no. When I use a boost, it's my OCD with drive and tone on 0 and volume on 10. I use the 30v as a gain channel on my super clean-sounding Marshalls. I suppose the 30v could be used as a boost, but I think $200 is nuts for just a boost. If that's really all you want to do, you can get a XP or TS or something much cheaper.

Why's that a bad thing??

For me it just didn't work

Earthquaker Devices dunes. Lots of options but not too many, covers TS tones but also clean boosts with scoops/humps/flat curves, great pedal.

Tonefreak Naked OD
Adds a roundness to the tone, with top-end breaks up like a pushed plexi
designed with Friedman after their Naked amp circuit, which was influenced by the Naylor Super OD amp

The Koko, as others have mentioned, is good for adding a ramp in mids and a mild gain push
any more and it gets a bit buzzy, but good as an overall shaper

The Savage Dry is not compressed when used as a boost and less compressed than the OD808. Depends how you use it and the amp.
