Hi all,

I'm looking to broaden my OD options with my BE-100. I mainly use BE and HBE for my primary gain needs. It would be cool to be able to create different sounds on the Clean channel. Maybe even use pedals to tweak the BE / HBE channel.

Right now, all I have is a Fulltone Fulldrive 2, which does not do it for me. It seems to muffle and muddy my tone (using it @ 18V, no other pedals in the chain). I was looking at something like a Wampler Tumnus, maybe. Are you guys using pedals the way I intend to? And if so, which ones?

Best regards,
Robert

Most Tubescreamer types will add mids and lop off highs similar to the Fulldrive. Can you give an example of a tone you'd be trying to get that the dirty channels don't get?

I pretty much always have a Tubescreamer (variant, VFE Scream) into a Klon (RYRA Klone) on my board. Both dialed in for very little grit and unity gain (when strummed hard). Then I put a clean boost (RC Booster) in FX loop for volume boost.

Well, I think what you're describing is pretty much what I'd like to do. The gain (H)BE gives me all the gain I need - usually have the gain on 6 for rhythm playing. I am looking to get some more "open", less gritty type tones. And I want the overall character of the clean channel to remain intact, if possible.

How is that Klone working for you and how is it different from a TS type pedal? Never played a Klone through the BE-100..

Tumnus
J Rocket "the dude" is a great pedal on high head room clean channels. Dumble vibe open singing tone.

If you're wanting more dirt maybe JHS Angry Charlie or @ pedal.

Alright guys, great input. Thanks so far! The J Rocket stuff is not something you stumble upon around here, but I'll keep my eyes open. Tumnus still looks like a great option.

I haven't compared the Klone to other Klon clones or the real thing. It doesn't have the mid hump or compression of a TS type. Sometimes I want that and sometimes I don't. Then I stack them for another low gain tone.

Give the Thorpy Gunshot a try. Very versatile OD. Reza has a post that highlights it on a clean channel. Thats where I play it when using my BE100 or Herbert. Just adds so many different layers...
Cool reviews:

Suhr Koko boost sounds great setup like that.

Agreed. I don't typically use a boost, but this is the best one I've heard.

Always liked how the Boiling Point sounded in this video with the BE Clean channel..

I use the tumnus in both the plexi channel and the BE channel of my smallbox for both the same purposes you mention(other gain options out of cleanish channel, as well as something to goose the gainier channel) and it delivers in spades... WAY better than my EP boost, Euphoria, and Plimsoul, all of which really worked nice with my Shiva...
