Bro when I pick up the Blackmore I'll have you check out my Bodenhamer Bloody Murder. By far the best boost I've ever used. It cuts out just the frequencies that make an amp loose, and leaves the brutal chunk intact

i typed boosted JMP into youtube for shits and grins, and our very own Bob Savage came up numero uno! and it's a bloody murder pedal!

Once again another Kick ass video by Bob!!

Bob, you gotta let me in on your recording secrets!!
Sounds great!

Out of your list i only own (or have owned) the following:
OCD v4
Fulldrive2
Timmy
Suhr Shiba Drive

Out of those 4, I prefer the Shiba or the OCD for overdriving the Marshall.
You might not get into 'metal' realm...for that i suggest a Suhr Riot or a Fulltone GT500, or stack 2 of the OD's in your list.

Cool. Not looking for a distortion box so the GT500 and the Riot are out but the OCD is becoming a strong possibility.

Try the Danelectro Transparent Overdrive.
Supposed Timmy clone.
I traded in my modded Boss SD-1 one I heard it.
Makes the overall sound HUGE while boosting.
The SD-1 I had gave it a boost but robbed it of low end and mids.
Not the case in the Danelectro.
For $40 you cant go wrong.

Watch this video....
it was what sold me on it.
I never been happier with a Boost pedal.

That pedal sounds good. I will probably just go and get one, if they are still available. I think maybe they changed it up though to avoid litigation. :dunno:

not sure what version of OCD i had, v4 i think, but it was super thin and just terrible. like a thin ts9 fingers on the chalk board. i'm a big time Fulltone fanboy, but hated the OCD i had.

the GT-500 is a great pedal, i'd say the boost side should be in the running for what you're looking for.

i've never played the Timmy, so talking out my ass. but my picks would be between the GT-500 and the Timmy.

That's wierd. OCD's are generally thick sounding pedals. Maybe you had a busted one?

Ebay should still have a few of the original ones floating around....

I'd give the Tone Freak Severe serious consideration. Noticably tighter, more dynamic, clearer, and more open than the Zakk, Bloody Murder, & Bad Monkey I had to compare it to. This really suprised me since it's designed to be more of a distortion pedal to go infront of a clean channel, but so far it's my favorite pedal I've used for boosting. The 3 way voicing and bright switches allow for some really good flexibility too and it will give you that saturation you're looking for that most TS types don't give.

it may have not been right? it wasn't fizzy or buzzy or anything that would make you think something was wrong, but damn sure way treble focused?

Man I don't know. For what you describe, you can hardly beat a regular old stock SD-1. I could fill up this page listing the OD pedals I have owned (including things like the Xotic BB, OCD, Barber DD, etc....). But these days, I just stick to the Boss. Yes, the SD-1 robs low end, but that is why it does such a good job tightening up the gain. And the lack of mid hump works great with Marshall style amps. It worked for a ton of people in the 80's............so why not now

If you are more into the TS-type OD sound, then my recommendation would be the T-Rex MAB Overdrive. Its a really subtle OD, but it makes the sound "FAT" !!! Sounds phenomenal for leads.

I forgot to mention in my initial post that I also have a MIJ SD-1. I haven't used it in a while, I will dig it out later today.

I got to agree with the poster who mentioned the SD-1. I've had an SD-1 (the Zakk is in this camp as well) and what you describe sounds more in line with that style of pedal than the typical TS type pedal. If you dig your SD-1 but it doesn't give you exactly what you're looking for I'd still say check out the Severe. It isn't a SD-1 clone, but it shares more in common tonaly with that type of circuit than a TS circuit: no nasally mid hump, more saturation, doesn't suck out all your bass. Kick a pedal.

I have both the MIJ and MIT SD-1 and find the MIT to be a bit more aggresive and modern with a tighter bass. I think it is worth checking out.

I've owned 3 versions of the OCD and currently own v4.
For what your trying to do and hearing your clips, I would
certainly not recommend the OCD. No way.Its got some compression
and some openess but its not a pedal i feel is tight on the bottom. Its not loose but I use it for a raw marshall classic rock/blues type stuff.
Dont get me wrong I dig the pedal, just not for the heavy stuff.

Did you find it cuts the treble? I try setting its eq flat and there is a huge cut.

The Bloody Murder is the best I have found. It doesn't cut the bass and has no mid hump with the brown Burr chip. It beats the crap out of my Analogman SD-1 for boosting. I did not like the OCD V4 for boosting. I have tried various pedals. Some expensive ones also. I would like to try out a Roccaforte boost. I hear those are excellent. Phatgirl on HC swears by it and she is definitely a Metal player. The SD-1 colored the tone too much and added a mid spike.

Hmmmm....for some reason I was under the assumption the Fortin mods had tons of gain on tap and had no need to be boosted. I mean at least thats what everyone has been saying, is that off base?? So they can't really take you into metall territory without getting all flabby? I say buy an old school MESA and throw the OD back in the closet

It ain't for his EP Fortin. He has a stock JMP...among other stock Marshalls...

I don't think its for the Fortin, did you hear the vid he posted? That's plenty metal and super tight
I wouldn't dick with the Evil Pumpkin! That thing will eat a boost pedal and shit it out first note :D
Maybe just another unmodded amp in need of some boostage ;)
