Which one would you guys recommend ? I'm looking to use it with a 50 watt JCM 800 to add OD and a solo boost.

The Koko works great.

The Koko works great.

That's one of the contenders. I've been looking at

Suhr Koko Boost
MXR CAE Boost/OD
McPherson Antique OD

Tim. Maybe the Fulltone Gt500. BB plus.
Haven't tried the Tim but I know my Timmy is one of my all time favorite OD's.

Funny, i just started a thread on the GFS twin overdrive to see if anyone had tried it. I am in the market and interested in one of these as well. I know it is GFS, but i liked what i have read so far. Other than that, I have not tried any of them but the KOKO boost I don't think will give you any gain will it? I thought it more of a tone sculpting pedal than anything. The MXR OD/Boost I heard has an excellent popular boost side but people tend not to be overly impressed with the OD side. Fulltone is always popular but again, I have not tried any of them.

I love the Koko, but it is not an OD pedal. It's a boost pedal. If you're setting your amp clean and looking for a pedal to get you some drive the Koko wont do it.

If you just want a boost the Koko is hard to beat...

Yeah, the koko isn't really an OD. The red side will bring an already lead channel into boost territory though. Really nice mid boosts, cuts ohh so nicely, really tough to beat. What kind of OD (voice-wise) are you looking for?

I like the koko. CAE's looked interesting too. Koko's mid boost (red) adds a little gain. The Will add more if your putting it in front of the amp or OD pedal. The green side is just clean. I agree its more if tone sculpting boost.

Maybe look into an analogman king of tone...? Can set up the left side for a clean boost and the right side for a really nice OD.

The koko is awesome but yeah as others have said more of a clean boost but hard to beat. Will never leave my pedalboard. I'm about to list an analogman beano boost which is also an awesome pedal and though labeled a treble booster it does much more. It's like adding an extra tube gain stage but very natural sounding and also adds volume when the gain is above halfway. Also has a 3way toggle for boosting treble, mid, or bass. It's perfect for plexi type amps but after getting my friedman modded marshall extra gain is not needed.

Well I just tried my Koko with my Friedman JMP in if you're looking for a pedal to push the front end of your already distorted Marshall for solos, it's a winner. And yes, it adds gain and articulation by doing this. Running it on 18v really makes it sing too.

Depending on how much gain you want to add, the 2 channel Carl Martin is awesome and has a very transparent clean boost.

Or you can add a Shiba drive and Suhr Iso boost. You can find the Shiba at a good price on the used market.

I use the Maxon OD-808 set as a boost. No gain, Level all the way up and it sounds great with Marshall's and any other amps for that matter!

I am looking to boost a JCM 800. I'd like a pedal that is an OD with a separate volume boost for solos. My goal is a three pedal pedalboard....OD/ Boost, Delay, and a tuner. I just got an 800 this weekend and have another on the way. They're both stock and I don't want to mod either one at this point. I normally use an EQ pedal in an amps loop for a solo boost and it works very well.

Unless you are running the amp clean, you aren't going to get much, if any extra volume out of a boost/OD. I put a metro loop in my 800 and use a clean boost for solo's. An OD and a clean boost are going to sound pretty different in front of that amp. I use both in front of tha amp and then run a clan boost in the loop for the extra volume when needed. Most ts based OD's are going to sound good. Or an SD-1

SD-1 didn't knock my socks off at all.. too much of everything. Get a cheapo MXR ZW-44 overdrive (usually 40-50$ used) and then a clean boost in a separate box and run a very short cable between them. I'm with you on the hunt for a box that has both that sound good but till then, you know the ZW-44 is going to kill with that amp. I installed a metro loop in my 800, no regrets there at all. Sound awesome. The 800's are the tone, I would just piggy back a resistor on the NFR 100k to drop it to say 50 to relieve the amp of some of that stiffness.
