Of the overdrive w/boost pedals.....

i just sold my old full tone fulldriveII that had an overdrive and an extra boost function. it worked good on a mostly clean amp, but on my jcm800, even set a ac/dc levels of gain then overdriven, the boost function only added more gain... ive had more luck with my maxon and then an eq in front of the marshall. the level of the eq above unity will give you a slight increase in gain, but i boosted 1-2k, and cut the lowest freq and the highest a few db's, and that gave me a little more cut in the mix for solos..

Koko Boost is the shit IMO!!! More of a clean boost than an OD though.

Well I just tried my Koko with my Friedman JMP in if you're looking for a pedal to push the front end of your already distorted Marshall for solos, it's a winner. And yes, it adds gain and articulation by doing this. Running it on 18v really makes it sing too.

Killer!!! I agree and it drives the front end of the Atomica very nicely. How do you run it on at 18V?

I'm curious to this as well

Uncle Mo is selling a CAE/MXR 102. I'd snatch up that bad boy.

The Pedal Power ISO5 has an 18v outlet or you can get a special cable from Voodoo Lab that jumpers 2-9v outlets on the Pedal Power Plus for 18v.

I use the HAO Rust Booster... It gets dirty and gainy... it works well!

So so many. I will say the Maxon is super quiet compared to most, has a great switch. But you can go crazy trying boosts and Overdrives. I have been through more than I can remember. I have no favorite. Himmelstrutz, Rocket Fuel, Rockett Copper was cool. So many. Now I am back to the OD 808 for the third time. Had two Rocket Fuels also. Three Himmelstrutz.

Rocket Fuel!

Had the carl martin hot drive n boost, it was nice.

I am looking to boost a JCM 800. I'd like a pedal that is an OD with a separate volume boost for solos. My goal is a three pedal pedalboard....OD/ Boost, Delay, and a tuner. I just got an 800 this weekend and have another on the way. They're both stock and I don't want to mod either one at this point. I normally use an EQ pedal in an amps loop for a solo boost and it works very well.

Unless you are running the amp clean, you aren't going to get much, if any extra volume out of a boost/OD. I put a metro loop in my 800 and use a clean boost for solo's. An OD and a clean boost are going to sound pretty different in front of that amp. I use both in front of tha amp and then run a clan boost in the loop for the extra volume when needed. Most ts based OD's are going to sound good. Or an SD-1

This +1

I've got an 83 Jcm800 2204, was messing around the other day to see what kind of volume changes you can get for some kind of solo boost, but unless the amp's gain is set conservatively shall we say around 12 o clock, their won't be much of a jump between them really, i tried an EQ with all the hi frequencies maxed out and gain maxed out as well to see, got a killer super saturated tone but not much of a volume boost if any

I was thinking, how about some kind of passive volume pedal (something like the EHX signal pad) , simulating turning your volume knob back to say 70-80% , and then an OD , using those to get the 3 different sounds , could work too

Which one would you guys recommend ? I'm looking to use it with a 50 watt JCM 800 to add OD and a solo boost.

What time of music is it being used for?
