Hi fellow gear nerds!

With COVID being our new reality and more time spent working from home, I am wondering what you guys are using for sitting in front of your computers or DAWS for longer periods of time? I am using some fashionable looking lounge chair that is better suited to a modern living magazine picture than it is to my desk. It is shit to sit on for over 30 min but looks great next to a fireplace. My wife and I are going to share an office at home for the time being until my basement is finished ( by 2030 at this rate, good thing she's hardly ever in the office) and I am setting up my studio desk with monitors but I need a good chair. I am thinking mesh back as I always seem to like the low back support on those at the office. What other considerations should I think of? Gaming chairs are popular I imagine but what about those of you who play guitar in front of your daw? Are there chairs with arm rests that swivel so you have room to play? Should I not be a poser and play standing up? So many questions... what are you using?

This is one of those areas that I struggled with for quite a bit. I had a half decent high back Ikea chair that I actually really liked but it would bottom out very quickly. Even though they advertise that they use a good foam on the base, it still was crap. I gave it to my kids to use and they like it.

I picked up a half decent gaming chair (Vertagear) and I have had it for a few years now. The arms will move back and forth and turn outwards when I am playing guitar or recording. It has been actually quite good. I put one of those thinner gel pads (the ones with the squares) on the bottom and it has been uber comfortable for long recording sessions.

I will probably get a new Herman miller chair in a couple of years when I retire and will be at home a lot more. I have heard those are very comfortable!

I have a gaming chair, but I don't often sit at my desk and play. I have another laptop in the jam room for that. I tried looking for a gaming chair without arm rests just in case, but they are pretty few and far between. The ones I found with removable arm rests were more $$$.

Steelcase baby. Put in a lot of desk time, it’s worth it to me.

I use an old office chair that is very comfy but would like to get a nice gaming type chair.

Some good suggestions here thanks.. I think for me, arms that flip up is a must now and I am leaning towards mesh because I feel like the leather or faux leather gets sticky and hot. If you are wearing shorts at all, I remember that feeling from an old chair I had years ago. The price of some of these chairs though wow! Our office got these 1K+ ergonomic chairs last year and they are terrible. I had to go back to an old 90's chair as it was firmer with better contour for my back. That's the thing that worries me..price tag doesn't always mean quality.

Secret Lab. It's pricey but amazing!

Nice! Like those secret lab chairs!!!!

Thx for the tip on those!

Are the arms removable on all the Secret Labs, though?

^ No, the arms do not come off or get out of the way on this model, I don't think they have one like that in their product line

I used to think I needed a chair with no arms or removable, but then recently realized I scooch up on the end of the seat anyway when I play and it doesn't seem to make the difference that I thought. Arms are fine for me. I did see some some companies offered fold away arms but not sure where I saw that

Been working from home for two years picked up a Herman Miller mirra, the aeon is nice to. They are not cheap new but you can generally find them on CL for less than 200 if you wait

Herman Miller Aeron

This!

Been using an Aeron for twenty years or more. I love the fact that they are sized to you. really comfortable and ergonomic chairs. Not cheap though.

Om my way home one garage eve, there was a gaming chair on the curb in my neighborhood. I got home, got off my vehicle, and walked around the corner to investigate. There were no tips or tears, and it smelled okay, so I proceeded to roll it down the middle of the street to my house. Computer chairs are not quiet when they are dragged across pavement.

I disinfected it in my driveway with some cleaners and conditioners, and let it sit in the basement for a day. Still smells fine, so it's mine. The only thing it needed was two bolts from the random jar and a tune-up on the rest of them.
