thanks to Khoi for a great ampfest. Everything went as smooth as a gravy sandwich.
It was great to meet some of the guys I hadn't met before, and see some old friends. Everyone there was friendly, and eager to show off their amps, and let you jam on them as much as you wanted. The spirit of ampfest is alive and well.
Here's some selected memories.
khoi was very cool, and his cameron modded 800 sounded very nice.
theFyn's "ghetto gear" a sweet and
beat 800 combo & pawn shop prize guitar sounded huge. IMHO the best sounding rig there. Very percussive and clear. Fyn has a jackhammer for a picking hand
Dolf's Alchemist was killer. I think I may pick one up on the cheap soon, so I have a small versatile combo for gigs.
Jay Strange's Friedman Naked/Marsha - There were a lot of people lined up for these. they sounded good to me, but lacked a little high end fizzle which I like. They reminded me a lot of a Splawn. If your a fan of Sykes tone on the Whitesnake album, this should be your amp of choice. Very loud amps.
Guitarsk8ers VHT had a sound similar to the Friedmans. It was thick and filled the room, plenty of gain on tap but for me it lacked the little top end sizzle I love.
A few people brought 5150/6505's. They all sounded good, just like all of the 5150/6505's I've ever played.
I've gotta get the high treble volume pot replaced on my plexi, and get the master volume mod done before the next ampfest.
When is the next one ????????
ps - My kid took pics, I'll try and get them up soon.
