Basically for me EVM12L's are great for pristine crystal cleans and brutal high gain tones, especially once you start tuning down and turning up the volume. V30's work for everything in between. I have a really big soft spot for V30's in that edge of clean to clean crunch area that I would never use EVM's for exactly because of that pick attack. It makes them too stiff for raw rock tones.

Possibly, but the guitar I use most with that amp has a Duncan distortion which is fairly bright. I only use cabs with V30's as well.

I just had a weird experience with new Duncan Pegasus. I usually keep the Response knob of my Friedman at 2.5 or 3, but this is with my other guitars. The Pegasus sounds much better if I put the Response at 6. It sounds a little too dark at the setting I use with my other guitars. Just goes to show that you never know where you will need to set the dials when you change one variable such as the humbucker.
