So way back in 2002 when Musicians Friend was clearing out the last of the "Gothic" guitars from Gibson, (LP Studios, Explorers, and V's), I got a brand new V with hard case for $500. I was initially bummed, because I wanted an Explorer at the time, and even though I had one in my shopping cart online, someone else pushed the confirm button before I did, so I ended up with a V. At the time I was really into Dean ML's and Z's, so a V wasn't on the radar. At any rate, my $500 Gothic V slowly became my number 1 go to stage guitar. Initially it was because it was (at the time) my least valuable guitar, so I didn't mind scuffing it up and such. Over the long run, it stayed my number 1 stage guitar, because it really did have a nearly perfect neck shape, had great upper fret access without being a neck thru 80's style guitar, the 500t pickup sounded good with the amps I had/have, and I loved the fact that there were no fretboard markers. To this day, I would never order a custom built guitar with fret markers.

Fast forward to 2 days ago..............

I LOVE my kids, and would never fault them for anything they did unintentionally. Whelp, my 17 month old son was in a hyper mood, and ran across the house, ramming into my Goth V that was sitting all safe and secure in my Hercules guitar stand. The V went face down with a "KURBLAM!!," as I was running towards it, missing catching it by mere inches........... I'm not kidding either... As soon as I saw him head towards it, I got up and skurdaddled towards it in a pathetic effort to save the guitar......... Funny thing is, my $4k+ Silverburst LP Axcess Custom w/FR had sat on and off in this same stand for days at a time with no notice from my curly headed, full of vigor toddler.

So now my "main" guitar has an X shaped crack right behind the nut/truss rod end, and a crack horizontally up each side of the headstock....... I fear that even if my local dude, who happens to be brilliant with such things, is able to fix it, than it will never be the same. I've played many guitars that have had their head f'd up, and even though they had the best luthier make them appear "like new" again, they still seemed (to me) to have something wierd going on. Looking at the multiple cracks in my guitar's headstock makes me feel like it's going to end up a practice room beater that you leave in the garage on a $4 garage sale stand during the winter, with no thought of even tossing a cheap blanket over it.

Anywho, I'm really sad........................... gimme some mojo in hope that my V will once again be worthy of being a main stage guitar, though I'm sure at the very least, that neck/headstock bending dive bombs are a thing of the past............

I snapped the headstock completely off of my Custom Guitar, got it fixed by a guy who did an incredible job... you can't even tell a different man, unless you are stressing over cosmetics... I wouldn't worry too much about the feel and sound... you'll be good man, just make sure you take it to a guy who knows his shit and is super confident he can do a good job...

Mojo sent in any case...

What doesn't kill you makes you (and your guitar) stronger. Get it repaired and it will have some added mojo.

Ive had a couple gibbos take that spill now, and its a common repair. My last SG got a wicked headstock break; repaired it and was still my main guitar for a couple years before i sold it. Sometimes theyre stronger after that repair..

This is just one of thousands of reasons you don't have kids. Mojo sent.

Echoed above; had a couple break and they were fine after a good repair job. If not; NGD!

Seriously?? You are entitled to your opinion, but to those of us who cherish and adore their children through the good moments and the bad, you should keep such verbal diarrhea to yourself.

Kids are awesome and do have their moments. Any good parent will you that the good times/moments will far outweigh the bad.

Oh yeah.. guitar mojo sent!

Mojo sent man, that sucks. It happened to one of mine as well and it's fine after the repair. I have since moved to wall hangers. My wife doesn't really like them but tolerates them after the repair bill.

I've got a 2 year old, 3.5 year old, and 6 year old. All hard cases, all the time, except when I'm about to play them. That's the only way you can be sure.

man, chill... he's not being all that serious

These things happen. I have mine on walls so my 2 and 6 year olds don't have any accidents. Sorry to hear about this. I'd see if you can fix it. Hopefully it comes back good as new!

Mojo sent man no worries. Had a early 70's vee that my buddies wife broke into 3 pieces. He used some crazy ass boat glue to put it back together. There was still wood missing under the last 5 or so frets so he just curled them under. I played it that way for like 5 years before I had someone fix it right. I wish I still had that guitar it was one of the best playing guitars I ever owned. Have an SG now with a neck repair in its probably stronger than new. Sounds like yours will have mojo on it's own now.

My guitars are on wall hangers, and stay in my music room behind a locked door so my little one can't get to anything. Dont forget amps, twisting knobs and turning them on and off.

What I see here is that it's time to start hunting down that gothic explorer that you have always wanted. Fix the V, find a goth explorer, and call it a day. ;)

Here's some motivation:

Most importantly, I hope your son is okay. The guitar is just a guitar ...at least your son isn't suffering from the same damage your goth took. Maybe look at it like the goth took one for the team so your son would be able to walk away from it without injury.

And yes, I have kids and guitars as well ...however, it was my wife who accidentally knocked over one of my acoustics which resulted in the headstock breaking clear off. Bummer about the guitar, but I got a sh1tload of "sorry I broke your guitar" sex!! Oh, and the guitar was repaired just fine, good as new, but I made sure to always look at it sadly when the wife was around to get the most pity (sex) out of the deal!

:)
