So way back in 2002 when Musicians Friend was clearing out the last of the "Gothic" guitars from Gibson, (LP Studios, Explorers, and V's), I got a brand new V with hard case for $500. I was initially bummed, because I wanted an Explorer at the time, and even though I had one in my shopping cart online, someone else pushed the confirm button before I did, so I ended up with a V. At the time I was really into Dean ML's and Z's, so a V wasn't on the radar. At any rate, my $500 Gothic V slowly became my number 1 go to stage guitar. Initially it was because it was (at the time) my least valuable guitar, so I didn't mind scuffing it up and such. Over the long run, it stayed my number 1 stage guitar, because it really did have a nearly perfect neck shape, had great upper fret access without being a neck thru 80's style guitar, the 500t pickup sounded good with the amps I had/have, and I loved the fact that there were no fretboard markers. To this day, I would never order a custom built guitar with fret markers.
Fast forward to 2 days ago..............
I LOVE my kids, and would never fault them for anything they did unintentionally. Whelp, my 17 month old son was in a hyper mood, and ran across the house, ramming into my Goth V that was sitting all safe and secure in my Hercules guitar stand. The V went face down with a "KURBLAM!!," as I was running towards it, missing catching it by mere inches........... I'm not kidding either... As soon as I saw him head towards it, I got up and skurdaddled towards it in a pathetic effort to save the guitar......... Funny thing is, my $4k+ Silverburst LP Axcess Custom w/FR had sat on and off in this same stand for days at a time with no notice from my curly headed, full of vigor toddler.
So now my "main" guitar has an X shaped crack right behind the nut/truss rod end, and a crack horizontally up each side of the headstock....... I fear that even if my local dude, who happens to be brilliant with such things, is able to fix it, than it will never be the same. I've played many guitars that have had their head f'd up, and even though they had the best luthier make them appear "like new" again, they still seemed (to me) to have something wierd going on. Looking at the multiple cracks in my guitar's headstock makes me feel like it's going to end up a practice room beater that you leave in the garage on a $4 garage sale stand during the winter, with no thought of even tossing a cheap blanket over it.
Anywho, I'm really sad........................... gimme some mojo in hope that my V will once again be worthy of being a main stage guitar, though I'm sure at the very least, that neck/headstock bending dive bombs are a thing of the past............
