Steve,

Same thing happened to me in a battle of the bands 2 years ago. We were instructed "MUST USE HOUSE BACKLINE". So we scrambled and bought distortion pedals, and set up "lite" pedalboards, etc.

Then we got there, and EVERY other band brought their own rigs, and used them.

SO... my advice to you: Be prepared to play through that POS JCM900, but, bring the CCV just in case.
That's a good point-that would be a bummer.

Either way, your gear or not your gear-good luck Steve. Hope you have a great time and of course, win this thing!

Steve, if you can get your paws on an original Marshall Gov'nor pedal, it works fantastic with a stock 900 ;)

Steve, the rockbox would do the do the trick. killer pedal as you already know!

Good luck Steve!!!! I'd say in the second round your CCV tone alone should get you 1st place   :rawk: :m17: Good luck!!!!!!

Set the 900 clean and use a BOSS Power Stack up front. You'll own...

You know.....that is exactly what I am thinking. I will get over there and someone will roll in with their own gear. I know me.....and I won't be too happy about that. I believe I will load up an amp for shits and giggles.

And, I just realized, the Boiling Point is the nearest thing I own to a distortion pedal.

I would hope its the mark 3 900 which I think is the 2100 or 2500, they are non reverb ones and sound a lot better. I dont know if the slx ever came in a combo. For some reason some of the same models sound like ass while others can be ok with the 900's. I would try the od channel first , then od channel set for mild breakup and hit it with the rockbox. I am sure u will do just fine and at least every other guitarist has to use it also. I have been to shows where they say u have to use their house amps but brought my stuff anyway. Do u have another combo amp u can bring? The reason they do this is setup time in between bands has to be quick.

The 900 is not the best amp..... but you could swap heads a lot faster than you can tune one in. That is just a fact. From what it sounds like (14 bands) you are going to have about zero time to screw around with the amp. I have done many gigs with the amps supplied. Just wing it and play with focus. I would not worry about tone to much.... not for this...

Perfect time to slap a Pod HD into the front end or fx return (if it has one) of the 900.

I remember getting a really good tone with my Strat (had a Fast Track 2 in the bridge) and a RAT distortion pedal (on the distorted channel) with a JCM 900.

Steve:

Sure, the 900 isn't a highly revered Marshall, but it still delivers the Marshall tonality. I used to have one as a back-up for a number of years and would often noodle around on it during rehearsals. It got the job done.

I'm pretty confident they'll provide you with the Dual Reverb model, as there are a lot of punters out there that NEED a clean channel (i.e., have 'broken fingers' so couldn't possible 'dial in' a clean sound by simply rolling back their volume knob).

As for time to dial one in?.....I never found the Dual Reverb model 900's to have an incredibly wide sonic palette. That is to say, turn the knobs all you want - you're not going to make that much of a difference. Put the Bass up around 70%, make sure your mids are at 40% or better for some good cut in the mix and dial in the Treble to taste. Done.

Strum an open A chord, point to the ceiling, and watch the crowd go wild.....

Good luck, man!

Just to get the point across, I will quote the picture too.

Stumbled through it with the Boss GEQ20 a, Boiling Point and a delay. Used a Lehle P-split and went to both amps. And, we made the first cut. On to Round 2.

That Nova System, BTW, looks like it would be a good choice for getting stuck with house gear.

Nice!! So how was the amp? Or was the tone in the fingers after all?

They were crap. I just set it all on noon and hit it with the Boss EQ to fatten it's skinny ass up
